studded vs nonstudded gloves

studded gloves have sliders on the palms... some are metal, some are plastic.
i went down a few months ago (shit, has it been that long?!) and the plastic studs on my gloves did wonders. i slid a *long* way, but didn't get a scratch on me. and my hands were definitely the first parts of me to touch pavement.
not something i wanna do again, but if i had to, i'd choose all the same gear.
