    Burning oil Normal>>??

Yeah i know, not another oil thread. Got a quick question everyone. Is it normal for a CBR to burn oil with mileage around 5000. I checked my oil today and noticed the view window was at the bottom after starting/warming up/ letting it sit for 5-10 minutes. Ialways keep my level at the top line in the window. I added a little more than a quarter of a quart and the level is now between the two lines(middle to upper middle). Any Wisdom / knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
BTW: its been about 1800 miles since my last oil change

That motor is junk dude. You should sell it immediately to me. What you want for it? You must ride wicked dude to smoke a Honda. They normally don't even need oil.

    Pm me for price.

nAAa man. It was off. I checked it again with the rear on a stand and its normal now (Between the top and the bottom lines). My bike doesn't leak at all so it had to of burned off Im guessing. I checked it before I started it today just to see that there was oil in the window out of habit. Normally The oil level on my bike when its cold is above the top line and then settles back down to the line right on when I warm it up/shut it down/ let it sit for a few minutes and check it again.

Checking it on the rear stand is going to tip the rear end up and put more oil down towards the front of the pan. On my FZR that would definitely throw the oil level off in the view window, as its somewhat towards the front of the oil pan.

Try checking it on level ground and see what you come up with. Is your oil window on the left or right side?

It looked low before I put it on the stand. The oil window is on the Rear Brake pedal side.. I'm startin to freak a little bit here. The bike doesn't smoke

    Dude, Remove that Shit

Com'on Pete dont be a Doosh. Im seriously not imagining shit here. I've become alot more lax about the bike. WTF why am I missing oil. I babied the shit out it and broke it in properly. Yea I beat on it here and there but within the limits of what its supposed to handle. HAS anyone else had this issue on a relatively young CBR>?

engines use oil occasionally, for no reason at all, tha't why you check it and add if necessary, nothing abmormal about using a few ounces of oil now & then.

super hot weather we've been having, not worth changing and putting 20w50 in iinstead of 10w40 or maybe you rode 16 hours only stoping for gas, or when your were wheelieing it some got spit from the crank case vent into the airbox

with 132k on my SV, I use a little oil now & then, always have, still performs as good as ever.

    Pete is teh funnay!

Firefly, you have OCD. Chill out and ride the damn thing. If the bike smokes a lot, or continues to suck down oil, check the rings. Otherwise, rinse and relax.

Are you adding the correct amount of oil when you change it? There should be an amount for oil only and then oil+filter and then Oil+filter+engine case splitting.

At 5k miles you shouldnt really be using oil. My rc is almost to 12k and it doesnt use a drop. Also 1800 miles is a bit more then I would recommend between changes as the oil in the bike also gets beat through all the transmission gears and whatnot so it takes a beating. I guess it all depends on your riding habits as well. I usually try to stick to around 1500 with my bike for changes.

Are you using the right oil in the engine (read the manual to find the right one - there is a difference between car oil and motorcycle oil)? Are you checking it correctly? After you shut the bike off let it sit for a few minutes and then look. Is it burning it or leaking it?

All engines burn oil. Some more then others. The valve seals and rings are best described as a controled leak. The best free advise (unless you want to scrap the bike or completely rebuild the engine and hope for an improvement) is to make sure you are using the right oil, keep an eye on it, and live with it.

I use the Hp4 without moly. I was using the Gn4dino until about 3200 miles. I switched to the synthetic blend Hp4. THis whole situation is kinda strange.
