Oh and it stings cause it's true... the military goes all out to recruit people out of lower-income/lower-opportunity areas, cause they know they will have more success.
At the same time there is an acknowledged brain drain that is keeping top students from going into the Academies or signing up for ROTC at top schools. (Plenty of news coverage of this) It's a problem as 50 or 100 years ago a lot more people viewed a military career as a fantastic option and today they don't. This is hurting our military.
And this goes across both conservative and liberal groups.. case in point none of our leaders having children in the military. That is a major problem IMO. |
