    PW50 2 stroke wont start?

These little things are Jeckle and Hyde with and without the governer. With it - they barely make enough revs to engage the clutch. Without it - about 30+. There's 2 happy mediums - either progressively drill out the hole in the washer (PITA if you ask me), or play with the slack in the throttle cable. My Dad did the slack route... About a week later I taught myself how to adjust cables...

I didn't see a washer in the exhaust, could have already been removed it would be between the head and the pipe right?
Did you adjust the cable slack on the input to the top of the carb?
The reeds don't look cracked, they had some crud on em, and I can see a little light coming through with a flash light, pressure from the piston downstroke should keep em shut right?

Thanks alot for all your help guys

You can use both adjustments (top of carb and handgrip) to get the max slack in the line. There might also be a throttle stop screw on the handgrip. The washer was probably already removed by the previous owner.

If the edges of the reeds look nice and straight they are fine (for this engine). If they are frayed, split, or jagged then they need to be replaced. Yes, the back pressure from the engine keeps them shut...

Anything to help get another rider out there (especially kids).

    PW50 2 stroke wont start?

Finally got the kit in, had it machined and but it all together today, fired right up, but seemed like it might be running a little hot.
anyone know a good baseline for the pilot air jet screw? 1-2 turns or something like that?

wait, what? Its running now ^^^^ I just need to know how many turns out the pilot air jet screw should be turned for a baseline.
it aint to quick off the line with the auto clutch, but once its engaged that thing is quick.

Thanks again for all your help everyone in getting it going, if you guys are ever up through hampden before I sell my house, theres a couple beers in the fridge for ya.

Start with 2 turns out as a baseline. Make sure the idle adjustment is backed off so the bike will idle, but not too high. 50 rpms or so above stalling will do fine. Also - check for a clean air filter, fresh pre-mix, clean jets in the carb, and a fresh plug with the right heat range. It's an air cooled engine, so it will run a little hotter just sitting there - if it's running OK - take it out for a ride around the yard, let it idle for a minute or so, ride around the yard, let it lidle for a minute or so - after a half hour of this take the plug out and make sure it has a nice light brown color. If it starts right back up and idles - your golden. If not (white plug) - open the air screw 1/2 turn at a time. The PW50 is built to take some abuse and shows up jetted really rich to begin with (spark plugs are cheaper then pistons). Hope this helps. Good luck

    PW50 2 stroke wont start?

I would but I'm afraid of what it would do back to me, that peaky little monster almost launched me into my truck, then the fence, and is startin to tear up my yard. I'm not used to the power delivery of a 2 stroke yet, especially one with a centrifugal clutch and no gears. Im more apt to hurt myself on the little 60cc thing, than my 954cc streetbike

anyone who owns a "pitbike" will tell you that theyhave gotten more injuries from that then anything else theyve ridden. its something about the size. you think you can handle it. then you go off a jump and forget how to stop it before you hit the riding lawnmower.
