I've been wearing Arai lids since '86. I just recently picked up a Nolan N102, and had a chance to use it for the first time this past weekend. The Nolan has some sort of aero shapeness to it, unlike my recent Arai lids (RX7, Quantum). There's a definite difference in the way the Nolan moves through the air -- no more "bobble head" that the Arais have. This is of course more of a consideration at higher speeds, but I found the Nolan lid to be a lot less fatiguing to wear just because of the decreased turbulence/buffeting, or whatever you want to call it. I didn't choose the Nolan for the aero effect, but I'm pleased in that it does seem functional. So there
is something to it, I guess.
