    I freakin' love heated grips!

Long story short I was at work until 10pm tonight. Needless to say the weather is getting pretty cool at night, and I was very happy to have my $25 Symtec heated grips for the ride back. Having had them now for almost two years now, I don't think I'll ever own another bike without them.

I think it's almost time to put away the perforated leathers and grab the winter textile suit...

once you've had them, you never wanna go without, cool nite, or morning, ride later in year with good feeling summer gloves rather than bulkier cool/cold weather gloves

They used to be 26 here but they went up. They have a toggle switch one and a plastic switch one. They are well worth it.

I concur. My heated grips extended my riding season I'm kind of a cold-weather pansy, so being able to ride in the morning when I know the day is going to be nice, is a great thing.

I got mine for I think $75 at my local shop, took Rob maybe 1/2 hour to an hour to install them.

what about the front side of your hands. does it keep that warm? that is my main complaint with cold weather riding. i like the lite gloves but the knuckles suffer. how do they work in this respect?

Got mine for $29.95 here: Heated Grip Kit

Best $30 I've spent on my motorcycle. I ride around in January with frozen feet and neck, and toasty hands.

Also, install is easy; I know nothing about electronics, and I was able to install 'em without problems. They come with instructions.

REDVTR1000: They obviously don't directly heat the outsides of your hands, but because fingers are pretty thin, the heat transfers very well, and the cold on the outsides of your hands becomes MUCH more bearable. Go for it, you'll never look back!

Symtec heated grips are friggin awesome. They're not great for COOOLLLD weather (Sub 45*) w/o some kinda colder weather gloves, but for those days that are just cold enough to send a chill through your knuckles w/ your usual leather/textile sport gloves, they're the cat's ass

Re: I freakin' love heated grips!

wow never knew so many people loved the heated grips on the bike.

as for me, yea heated grips are pretty damn sweet.. 10 below and they are a must, but I usually shut them off or turn them to low when it's above 20 degrees. Oh that's also on the snowmobooble (when I had one).

I have a thing, where I avoid the bike when it's so cold out that the tires resemble plastic. but to each their own, no hammering when it's that cold out.

    try different tires

for 120/17f & 160/17r sizes, I use Pirelli MTR60-corsas but they don't come in a 180/17r, they get warm enuf that when I go thru wet or snow that you see steam rolling off the tires

I have heard good cold weather reports of Avon Extreme Rains that do come in a 180/17 for the rear

It's pretty amazing what a difference heated grips make. Your hands are like little radiators -- keeping them warm will help keep your core warm because of the blood flowing into them and returning warm instead of cold.

Bingo, that's who I ordered from. Nice company!

The install is easy, and if anyone needs help doing it let me know.

My only "gripe" is that they (obviously) don't do much for the outside of your hand. With that being said, thicker gloves and or handguards will solve that problem.

i dunno, just curious to see if any1 tried that before. I have never tried that and likely will not because it seems like the simple fact of the handwarmer taking up space will create an unnecessary irritation and a control hazard.......
Having used chemical heat packs for taking photos in the winter, I don't think I'd want to jam them under my gloves near my wrists. I think the warming effect would be somewhat reduced, and there's a possibility of actually burning yourself (hence the warnings on the heat packs not to use them directly against skin, not that I know anyone who follows that for hand warmers). Given that I usually don't have a whole lot of room in the wrist area under a full gauntlet glove to begin with, I'd hardly want to wedge something else in there.

If you were going to try it, the toe warmers (thinner profile and generally having adhesive on one side) might work a bit better.

For $30, I think I'll be ordering some heated grips. And for another $40, I'm going to order another pair of warm gloves (the Axos I have are on the small side).

Whatever method you use, as a motorcycle rider, heating the hands is essential.

I have Gerbing's gloves which plug directly into my bike. It's good to know that on a night such as tonight, alls I have to do is flick a switch and keep on riding!

I may add some modded Wee-Strom hand guards to the FJR in the future....we'll see.
