Why is there no big deal about this?

Exxon sets fresh quarterly, annual profit records - Feb. 1, 2008

I would think there'd be some sort of outrage, but this just gets swept over and will be off the newswires by tomorrow. Everyone plays innocent, oh oil is so expensive, theres a shortage, theres storms threatening our refineries, etc etc. But obviously the oil companies are just gouging us to increase their profits. If all the oil companies are making profits even APPROACHING this, couldnt this bring charges of price fixing? I realize they're private companies and have the right to make a profit, but at what point does this become taking advantage of people?
