1 gallon of gas will cut 4 cord of wood with a sharp chainsaw
5 gallons of gas will split the 4 cords of wood you just cut
And maybe 20 gallons of gas at most to haul the 4 cord of wood from the woods to the house.
What are we up to, 26 gallons of gas? That same 4 cord of wood is easily worth 500+ gallons of heating oil. I'm heating my house 99% with wood, and I'm already kicking myself in the ass for not getting a combo wood/oil boiler, then even my hot water would be wood. I've used about 35 gallons of oil sence I filled my tank in the beginning of October, and 34 of those I'm sure was just for hot water

I heat with wood as well - but the wood is cut with a gas powered chainsaw, hauled out of the woods with a gas powered tractor, split with a gas powered log splitter, and hauled to your house in a gas powered truck. So while I enjoy the heat I get, I dont know how much good I'm doing either the environment or the oil problem.  |
