    How to wash helmet liner?

So it's time that I washed the liner of my Spec 1r. I didn't want to just pull it out and destroy it so I was wondering if anyone knows a good way of safely washing it. It's alcantara which also made me wonder if there is a special kind of detergent I should use or not? Anyone have a Suomy booklet or something they can check since I don't have mine anymore?

Not sure about Suomy, but the arai liners are easy to take off the padding to wash. Did mine last winter

Re: How to wash helmet liner?

From an article way back I learned to just use a mild detergent like baby shampoo. All my helmets up until my current Bell didn't have removable liners. The recommendation was to just submerge in the tub with warm water and use mild soap. That's how I always did it. So pulling out the liner should be way easier to wash, and take quicker to dry.

    Pull out pads.
Wash in luke warm water with mild laundry detergent like Woolite. Directions are on the bottle.
    Allow to air dry.

+1... If the liner isn't removable, dunk it in the tub like Wishbone said.

I've been washing my HJC liners in the washing machine with clothes, then letting them air dry. They come out smelling fresh and feeling brand new.

Re: How to wash helmet liner?

Ready for this. It worked on mine. My Arai was used in three rain races at the end of last season. well come middle of winter i couldnt take it any more had to clean it. An Ex-Expert, Matt Gordan one of my mechanics, told me a trick and it worked. If you get a cooler big enough to fit your helmet, fill it with boiling water and baby shampoo and leave it for 24 hours it is completly refreshed and it works. I just put it on a boot dryer after and dryed it that way. Let me know if you try it and how it works for you. Clarkzilla
