Yikes - safety wire that shit man. Aren't there some retaining pins holding those in? You should have those pins wired up so that doesn't happen.
Loudon is no place to be dropping a brake pad on the track. Consider that a warning...You're lucky you didn't get hurt, or take someone else out with you.
