Sealing overflow tube in carb bowl

I am cleaning an old set of Keihin carbs and one has a leaky overflow tube. It's the long brass tube (not the thing the arrow points to) in the photo below . It's leaking where it mates with the float bowl. I am reluctant to try and pull it out because I think I might break it off. I'd like to simply apply sealer to the base. In the past, I'd use Permatex #1 (not RTV) which resists gasoline just fine. However, Permatex #1 can be softened with alcohol and I'm worried about 10% ethanol dissolving it and making it leak again. Two questions: is sealing it a good plan, and what should I use?

Can you flow in any solder? Even if it doesn't bond the materials with a nice solder joint it could fill in the gap.

Yeah, stoinky, if you wanna make the trip to Hudson, NH I have a professional soldering set up that could likely handle that.....lead-free too if you wanted. No guarantees. Just throwing the offer out there.

Another thing is, have you tried pressing the tube in further?

Thanks for the replies and the offer of help.

Pressure testing revealed an invisible hairline crack in the tube at the base. I tried to pull it out, no go; so I snapped it off, drilled it out, made a new one (Keihin surprisingly used .125" brass tubing, which I happened to have on hand), and installed it. No more leak.
