Important Rules To Follow If You Are Involved In An Accident:

Don't let the other party leave the scene. Even if it appears to be a minor accident, make sure you file a police report to protect yourself.

Take down information at the scene. Make sure to get the name and badge number of the police officer as well as the case number for your accident. You will also want to take down the name of the other party involved, their insurance company and their license plate number. If the name and insurance of the party is not provided,be sure to get the license plate number.

Watch what you say. When speaking to the officer on the scene, never make any admission of guilt. This will only hurt you in the long run. Also be sure to answer the officers questions, but don't offer any extra information. This same rule applies when speaking to any insurance agent. You should direct all calls to your attorney. Do not offer any information yourself.

See a doctor. If you do not go the hospital immediately after the accident, be sure to see your primary care physician. When in a motorcycle accident you may not realize the extent of your injuries. Your body releases adrenaline, which may cloud your senses and your judgment.

Don't sign insurance check too quickly. An insurance adjuster will contact you almost immediately after your motorcycle accident. Typically they will offer to send you a settlement check immediately. They will then mail you a release and/or a check. You should not sign either of them, but should turn them over to your attorney immediately. By signing either of these you may have just settled your case without even knowing it and may not be able to collect money for your injuries.

    Important Insurance Information

One way to protect yourself in an accident is with your insurance policy. Here are a few tips about insurance that you should know.

    Important Insurance Coverage Information

If you ride a motorcycle it is important to make sure that you have yourself properly insured. Typically, you will want to carry greater policy limits for the uninsured/under insured portions of your policy. This part of your insurance policy insures you and your passenger in the
event that the other parties insurance does not cover all of your damages or injuries. Often times people suffer extensive injuries when they are involved in a motorcycle accident and the other party does not have sufficient insurance to compensate the victims. In order to pay for any outstanding medical bills and be paid for pain and suffering you often just turn to your own insurance company and file what is called an under insured claim. Many riders carry the bare minimum policy limits and
often find that there is simply not enough insurance coverage available to compensate them for their injuries. Be sure to protect yourself and obtain an under insured insurance policy that will adequately compensate you in the event of an accident.
