Actually, that sounds like fun. Where will this happen? I'm hoping to visit many lakes and ponds with my new setup.

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

So for racing I have to run a tether kill switch. CRF has some weird electronic kill switch that's illuminated and shit. Hope it's an easy swap. Anyone done it on a FI jap dirt bike before?

Take a string, tie it onto your leathers. Tie the other end onto the plug cap.

In a pinch some copper wire will work too. Make sure you remove the insulation from the plug cap so the wire doesn't slip off.

Is there racing around here? Are ama studs required? Besides a tether is anything else required?

It's in sturbridge mass at the hamilton rod and gun club. You also have to have extended fenders on the front and rear. AMA are required yes.

Someone please stay on my case about getting my bike ice ready..... I need need need to get on the ice this year. Been saying I'm gonna get out there for years now.

Trouble is, weekends aren't really doable w/ me working till 2:30 in Quincy. Monday/Tuesdays work much better for me.

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

For those thinking about building your own tires here are some links to some info I thought was worthwhile.

    https://koldkutter.com/catalog/products.php

How to Install Kold Kutter Ice Racing Screws & Ice Master Tire Liners - YouTube

Looks like the Bridgestone ED11 is the front tire of choice and the Kenda 335 is the rear tire of choice

    Good luck!

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

1" screws? Or longer? Ice Master liners are supposedly only good for 1" screws.
Liners worth the dough? Or can you do something with a shagged street tire. (I got those.) .. Thinking the liners are worth the dough.

Someone suggested super gluing the screws in. Seems like a good way to add a lot more labor to the process. Thoughts?

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

I've never built a set of ice tires from scratch so I can't say that I have any valid input. If I were to do it though I would go with the liners and screws that are suggested in that video and follow that process. It may not get you the best ice tire made but I am sure it will get you an ice tire that is more than capable on the ice.

Not too sure on the super glue, as you mention it is a lot more labor and what type of effect does the super glue have on the rubber of the tire. There is a slight chance it may make the connection between the two worse rather than better.

Another little tidbit. If you are looking for a dealer that would have access to the Koldkutter line of products if a dealer is a WPS (Wester Power Sports) dealer than they should be able to get them for you. Pretty sure that Plaistow Powersports is a WPS dealer if that is convenient for you in any way.

Liners are a must. Otherwise the screws just pullout too fast (that's what she said).

TTR makes less power and is less likely to rip screws out (if youre using gold screws). PK taught me the basics of oval riding and getting used to controlling the slide etc on a CRF230. i was able to really get the rear sliding with the throttle and get it low enough that my hand was below my knee. YMMV

Re: Getting set up for ice riding

Not necessarily a link to ice tires or how to set up an ice bike but I figured this would be a good place to post the link I ran into on another website

    For Sale VFT

There are all sorts of flat track related toys for sale on that link. Even a sprinter van for those who would be so inclined.

    Here's some shots from yesterday.

    Adam screwing around

    Stephanie

    Kurtz

Doug with a flat rear tire

Doug decided to test the run off. There was plenty and the bike never even tipped over. Stephanie was a obviously a big help getting the bike out...

    They're insanely fun, though.

Dont worry, id never convince Steph to put anything not AMA legal on the CR. If I pick up a trail bike and decide to put ice tires on that also, that's the time I would go with those nasty things Doug has. Best of both worlds.
