    ECU Flash/Re-Flash

With modern bikes filled with electronic aids supposedly there for our riding safety.
What problems can one run into when Flashing/Re-Flashing an ECU ?and what reliability issues if any can one run into? What are the benefits ?

Never heard of any ill affects, but you can really get a bike opened up and in the case of the R1/R6 to smooth out and make some good HP.......Lots of people are flashing ECU's now a days. Esp R6 for racing...

    ECU Flash/Re-Flash

Are you talking about flash-tune ? I have it and love it.

    Benefits:

Gets rid of the throttle restriction from YCCT.

    Plug-and-play quick shifter option

    Built-in sprocket conversion

No need for piggyback a fuel management

    Disable AIS

    Disable EXUP

Control radiator fan on and off temperature

    Control intake trumpet

Reflashed my '12 Triumph after changing air intake, exhaust, AI and O2 removal. No issues so far. More power, throttle snatch is GONE… overall it's a vast improvement. I think if you get the right tune, you shouldn't have any issues at all.

thanks for the feedback the R1 Sure needs one based on personal experience and other riders, but what about the extended warranty ? would this not void it ?

Probably would…. I'm just guessing here, but maybe if the dealer does the reflash you would make out better with warranty issues.

Hell no,just buy a used ECU to flash while the bike is under factory warranty.

You can always reflash the stock map back in. It's not like they do a check sum on the ecu.

the dead give away on the r1 with a flash is when they have it autostart in A mode. Thats as far as the dealer i go to checks. If it starts in A mode your warranty is done. I have the 5 year warranty on mine and while i havent flashed it yet I did ask the dealer about doing it before i bought the bike. They said they dont really look for anything other than the A mode start up unless something is really, really wrong with the bike like a melted piston.
