why is this off topic?
I can report that the proposed race track construction is indeed now underway. Clearing has begun.
why is this off topic?
No bikes allowed.
I attended a Town meeting about this track. At that time, maybe 4 years ago(?), the proprietor had an interesting sell: No bikes, ever!, No spectators, No "Races". Only private clubs, for practice and "tuning"...
Palmer Ma?! no bikes allowed wtf is that shit about?! apparently they dont like $$$
So besides the degenerates who ride them what's wrong with bikes? noise?
They don't want us motorcycle riffraff at their exclusive private racetrack. Well fuck them, fuck them right in the ear.
Cool, maybe I'll be able to rip the Miata there.
From a safety/insurance standpoint, I'm willing to bet motorcycles cost more to a track than most cars....but I could be wrong.
It's the mentality that bikes bring racing.
And NYST was sold to the community as being bikes only and now based on what I've seen on facebook locals are upset they are allowing cars...I don't get it
I blame all the idiot stunters and squids for giving sportbike riders a bad rep... people get an idea in their heads and thats it they dont wanna budge.
I take Prilosec sometimes, that count as motorcycle and drugs?
I'm such a badass biker, even my heart burns.
psst Its really the site of the new Mohegan backed Casino and Far eastern housing complex
Wirelessly posted (GS3)
The article I read said they planned on having vintage car racing. Racing is racing. They will build it so its completely unfavorable to bikes anyway. It will be northern lime rock.
I explained how much cheaper it is to make motorcycle friendly from the beginning - rather than trying to make it safer later with tons of airfence. And how you never know what the public will "tolerate" down the road, blah, blah, blah.
Did they listen? We'll see... but I'm not too hopeful. I have visions of an armco (or tree) lined circuit.
....unless they're all gonna drive like a bunch of pussies
yeah, I made that argument too (how safe for bikes means less damage to cars).
Ya know Tony, it might be good business to find out if any decision makers over there would be interested in a free track day at NYST with TTD next season...just to help them discover for themselves that people who do motorcycle track days around here aren't all goons (or whatever element they feel the need to exclude, at the expense of lost profit). Maybe it is the insurance issue, or maybe it is that they think the town wouldn't like bikes, or maybe it wouldn't feel "exclusive" enough to the collector car crowd they are trying to attract as members if bikes were allowed...but besides one of those, or some other legit reason, what kind of backwards business plan starts off with the idea of excluding some of those who might want to pay you?
it came down to a combination of stereotypes and bike-ism, for lack of a better word. On part of the town mostly, but I got the impression it was also on part of the potential car members... really not much different than we faced at Monticello.
And I did invite them to attend one of our days to see just how mellow they are.... and will again now that the project seems to have legs again.
