    Palmer race track

I can report that the proposed race track construction is indeed now underway. Clearing has begun.

I attended a Town meeting about this track. At that time, maybe 4 years ago(?), the proprietor had an interesting sell: No bikes, ever!, No spectators, No "Races". Only private clubs, for practice and "tuning"...

Because I suspect that most tracks start off this way. Then, as things change, and time goes by, bikes may indeed show up there... And some bike guys are also car guys.

Yes - Palmer, MA. There is also a proposed MX track in Warren, MA, about 3 miles from this track.

This is an interesting question. From what I saw at the meeting, people were highly opposed to any track that supported motorcycles, but many folks seemed to have starry eyes and dreams of NASCAR in their heads when speaking about cars...

Cool, maybe I'll be able to rip the Miata there.

From a safety/insurance standpoint, I'm willing to bet motorcycles cost more to a track than most cars....but I could be wrong.

Ya because before stunters people society loved motorcycles

Come on man they were always associated with danger, rebel, drugs, etc. it's a joke but it's the truth.

I agree! Keep the squids and stunters on the streets, we don't need them clogging up the track

    Wirelessly posted (GS3)

The article I read said they planned on having vintage car racing. Racing is racing. They will build it so its completely unfavorable to bikes anyway. It will be northern lime rock.

I had several long email conversations with the developer/owner trying to get them to build it motorcycle friendly from the start... even if they don't want us at first.

I explained how much cheaper it is to make motorcycle friendly from the beginning - rather than trying to make it safer later with tons of airfence. And how you never know what the public will "tolerate" down the road, blah, blah, blah.

Did they listen? We'll see... but I'm not too hopeful. I have visions of an armco (or tree) lined circuit.

If they have hundreds of acres to spare, and no concerns with spectating areas, why should "safe for motorcycles" be any different from "great for cars exclusively"? I wouldn't think the people with rare Porsches and Ferraris would be any more anxious to slam them into a tree, wall, or pond than we are with our bikes and bodies.

....unless they're all gonna drive like a bunch of pussies

yeah, I made that argument too (how safe for bikes means less damage to cars).

    Re: Palmer race track

Ya know Tony, it might be good business to find out if any decision makers over there would be interested in a free track day at NYST with TTD next season...just to help them discover for themselves that people who do motorcycle track days around here aren't all goons (or whatever element they feel the need to exclude, at the expense of lost profit). Maybe it is the insurance issue, or maybe it is that they think the town wouldn't like bikes, or maybe it wouldn't feel "exclusive" enough to the collector car crowd they are trying to attract as members if bikes were allowed...but besides one of those, or some other legit reason, what kind of backwards business plan starts off with the idea of excluding some of those who might want to pay you?

yeah... as I mentioned there were several long emails I won't go into too much.

it came down to a combination of stereotypes and bike-ism, for lack of a better word. On part of the town mostly, but I got the impression it was also on part of the potential car members... really not much different than we faced at Monticello.

And I did invite them to attend one of our days to see just how mellow they are.... and will again now that the project seems to have legs again.
