Thumbs down Stolen: 2004 Zuma 2-stroke, silver

Was locked to a tree in front of my place. They elected to cut the lock rather than the tree.

For those playing the feralchimp bike theft home game, that's 3 in the last year.
At least I got a great deal on it, and got to ride it for almost two weeks.
Too bad an arai and a new set of vanson gloves were under the seat at the time.

    Seriously considering a stakeout / honeypot with a non-running SR50 Ditech.

What kind of lock did you have?

And more importantly, can it handle 120V AC? ;-)

How many have to disappear before your insurance or the local PD starts to wonder if you're doing it yourself?

I can't imagine how pissed off you must be. I really like the honeypot idea.

I love the fact that the Wee was out there for YEARS and nobody touched it. Why all the hate for the Wee?

    So much wtf.

+1 on the honeypot idea. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same people who have targeted you in the recent past.

The DL650's mug offered built-in theft deterrence, I guess.

The lock was one of these OnGuard "armored cable" locks; not sure which model number. It felt pretty beefy, but the thieves were able to slip the bolt cutters between two of the armor links, and the cross-section of cable they had to get through was pretty weak.

I'd be a lot more pissed about it if I didn't have my kid around, cheering me up all the time.

If you do this sting operation, please use C4 and video tape. And make sure you post it to LiveLeak before you go to jail.

Meh, C4 is too valuable. Throw some oatmeal in a jar of gasoline.

I use the Dowco Cover Alarms in all sorts of ways. They are loud. You can put one on the bike so when they wheel it away it is still yelping. You have never seen a teenager drop a pumpkin so fast!

    Back-off

Just kidding, but really, I'm curious as well.

A few have popped up on craigslist with unresponsive sellers...

Yep. That has been handed down to my little brother (who crashed it the day I brought it home.) Since I've moved back into the city I'm dying for a replacement.

Re: Stolen: 2004 Zuma 2-stroke, silver

I actually have 2 Aprilia SR50 Ditechs. One runs and has ridiculously shitty plastics, the other doesn't run (but is complete) and has incrementally less shitty plastics but a tear in the seat. The plan is to combine them to form a running SR50 Ditech with incrementally less shitty plastics and a spares bike. I'm looking forward to that project a bit, but at this rate they could both be stolen before I get around to it, so feel free to PM me offers on the pair. :/

I don't really want to leave Somerville. I want the assholes who keep stealing my shit to be effectively incentivized to stop doing so.

Thanks for the alarm link Garandman; will definitely pick up a few of those after I stop laughing from picturing teenagers and pumpkins.
