01CBR929 will not start with new battery

    Evening,

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on why my CBR929 will not start with a new battery.
My old battery would not hold a charge (haven't ridden the bike all year 2014) so I went out and bought a new battery. The new battery was charged
and I went to install it, the ignition lights came on but then shut off and never again came back on. I checked
all the fuses and they all looked good. I even tried attaching the jumper cables directly to the motorcyle pwer/grnd cables
and still there was no power.

Is there something else that I am missing? Or any other suggestions that you have.

I want to try to solve this problem myself before I take to Arlington cycles and pay an arm and leg for something may not be that
    difficult to fix.

    Thanks,
    CBRRdee

    Completely guessing... Starter relay.

Do you have a multimeter? A test light?

Strange that the headlight won't come back on. Could be part of the relay circuit though.

Do you hear a "click"? The solenoid takes considerably less energy to energize than is required to accidentally spin the starter itself; often with a bad starter you will hear the solenoid click yet the starter doesn't turn.

Bad stator, regulator, faulty ignition? Def need to get a multimeter and start poking around. Does the fuel pump prime once the key is turned to the on position?

If you can find a wiring diagram I can help you troubleshoot it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. There is no clicking sound when I turn the key. It's completely dead. And the fuel pump does not prime at all which I found strange. I will keep poking around and keep you guys posted.

    Thanks again for your help...

Sounds dumb, but make sure your battery connections are tight and free of corrosion.

If the fuel pump doesn't prime at all then you have a bigger problem. Could be a blown fuse, bad relay or loose connection that's not letting any of the circuits complete -- so likely at a major point, like the battery or the fusebox.

    Do you have a multimeter?

grab a multimeter and start tracing the power from the battery. it will stop someplace and help you narrow it down.
From what I am reading the bike is completely dead right? no power no lights no anything when the key is turned? please confirm and we can go from there.

id say a bad ground from the battery. probably not AT the battery but the other end. check the positive too. i see it on sportsters a lot. people hook the battery up and when they slide it into the tray the negative cable comes loose. eventually, one day they turn the key on and all the lights come on, but when they hit the starter button everything goes dead and doesnt come back.
turn the key on and wiggle the ground and positive cables at the other end and see if they come back on. if so, then theres your problem
