I've got one of these laying around unwrapped. Can you say more about how this can be used under a race suit and what advantages that would present compared to wearing separate back and chest protectors?

Based on what I have seen in reviews, an armored jacket fits snug to the body (can be fitted properly using the adjustable straps and velcro). Once fitted, the armor doesn't move around in case of a crash. When worn under an off road jersey, street jacket, the advantage seems obvious. If one has an oversized race suit, this can certainly work well as long as it can fit inside the suit (with suit armor removed). You should try to see if you can fit it inside your suit.
