Build a Harley

I'm not sure how putting a good set of brakes and suspension is a lot of effort into turning my Harley into a sport bike. It's mainly a two up bike for me so the added stroke in the shock in nice to have and being able to stop a 700lbs bike is key to me. I'm surprised Harley has made it so far without being taken to court over their shitty brakes for such a heavy bike.

Other then that everything else is pretty much standard mods for most Harleys.

first off, upgrading the suspension is something most people dont do but i would as well. secondly, theres nothing wrong with the stock brembo brakes. they will lock up either tire with ease. if you think you need something bigger/better then thats on you. i personally think that youre just going to over power the tires even easier and be more inclined to lock them up since they are bias ply cruiser tires and not z rated sportbike sticky compound tires.

I also don't get why you are so negative over everything I've done. I'm sorry you don't like anything I've done and you think its stupid but oh well. I guess get your own Harley and show me how it's done.

not sure where this is coming from since that was first and only negative thing i have said about anything youve done to this bike.

I think it's cool that somebody is putting money into a Harley's suspension and brakes, if they need upgrading for the way you intend to ride it.

thats the part i didnt get. if you want to ride a bike aggressively enough that those types of upgrades are required, then buy a bike that is designed for that. HDs are meant for cruising.

When you have to spend as much money as you do to buy a Harly you should not have to upgrade basic shit like brakes.

Funny, put performance brakes and slicks on a fucking dirt bike and its fine.... Upgrade a few things on a cruiser and you're the butt of a joke. Double standards much?

In the end it's a free country and while not a bike I'm interested in, the process of picking parts and doing the work is interesting as a process and I'm glad he's posted up.

Not to threadjack, but just to show that James isn't the only one out there adding performance parts to a Harley.... my buddy is nearing completion on his Dyna project.

Not bashing on those who are upgrading their Harleys at all.

I can't seem to get past the large gap that becomes present between the rear fender and the rear tire when upgrading to the more performance oriented rear shocks. Seems to take a way from the appearance of the bike.

Obviously just my opinion.
