Re: any LRRS guys mind fielding some questions from a new guy

ok so i guess ill start with my bike. its a 2007 triumph daytona 675 and my plan is to do the may penguin day and race that weekend.

well first question is approved coolant. i have been told water wetter only but i saw on street and comp the motul mo cool. is that ok?

i have drilled and wired my 1. front and rear caliper bolts 2. front axle and pinch bolts 3. rear axle 4. drain plug and oil filter 5. my outside 2 cylinder header bolts. 6. oil fill plug. am i missing anything?

in the rule book they were saying to seal my air box. is that true for my bike and if so what is the case in a wet race? i was under the understanding that the drains helped keep water from getting sucked into my motor.

the transponder..... it was saying that i can rent one for now but the rules around mounting it to the bike has me slightly confused. were do i mount it and how? what is your set up?

the number plates. i know i have yet to get one so i cant order anything in advance. i was going to get my license with penguin on friday and race that weekend so what should i bring/ buy so that when i get my number i can get the back round on and number right

and fuel. i know loudens pumps have sunoco 93 and up so if i just fill up with sunoco 93 from any station down here in RI is that going to pass?

and i guess any advice anyone has. i have been doing track days with tonys and boston moto for going on 5 seasons now but getting ready for this first time feels like i did that first track day so its feeling overwhelming for sure especially because im not personal friends with any current racers that can just hold my hand through that first day lol im sure it will all be ok but any advice anyone has would be great. thanks again guys and thanks in advance for the patience

Re: any LRRS guys mind fielding some questions from a new guy

Coolant: Water, Water plus Maxima Cool Aid, Water plus Water Wetter

Safety Wiring: Coolant drain and bleed bolts need to be wired as well

Airbox: If you're running vents to the airbox, it's now acting as your catch can. As such, yup you gotta seal it up. Water shouldn't be an issue unless the Trumpet has a bizarre intake setup.

Transponder: Easy cheesy, ziptie the mount bracket to your fork upper, done.

Numberplates: If you make sure you've got white backgrounds in place you can just buy numbers from S&C Friday night and stick them on. Just bring some cash.

Fuel: Gotta buy from the pumps on track. For Penguin/practice it doesn't matter, but you'll need to be on approved fuel for Saturday.

Wire the coolant fill cap as well.

    Kurlon covered other things well.

Come to the April races and wander around and meet some people. I know nothing about racing but can help you with where to be and when.

Find a local bike shop that carries dirt bikes, they should have blank white MX backgrounds, aka giant sheets of white vinyl sticker. And good catch on the coolant cap Jasnmar.

White vinyl is available at street and comp or you can buy white vinyl online. I was going to post a link to something you could buy online, but I now realize that I know nothing about vinyl and which kind is the best.

Buy a set of 6" red vinyl stick on numbers ahead of time. The sets usually come with 3 of each number. Pick a race number that has three unique numbers. Like 782. Except not that number 'cause its in use.

Re: any LRRS guys mind fielding some questions from a new guy

Is anyone able to get me the numbers that either are or are not in use? I've got a few numbers in mind but because of a little OCD, I'd like to know if they are in use now rather than latter.

Yeah, I felt the same way. PM me a reasonably sized list and I can give you a go/no go on them.
Although it's probably better waiting a week or two still. I don't know if people register late.

Re: any LRRS guys mind fielding some questions from a new guy

If you have any questions etc or just wanna shoot the shit feel free to stop on by the Center garages mainly the Center 'tech' garage where RSP/MTAG is set up, Center 1 is ECK, Center 2 is BT1R and Center 8 is the hooligans associated with Jasnmar. alot of the helpful people on this forum can be located in the Center garages and would be more than willing to give you a hand if you stopped in and introduced yourself. If you cant race in April I agree with Jasnmar that you should atleast try and get up there for a day to learn the lay of the land, how things work and meet people. Good Luck

Stay the hell away from Center 15 though. For us racing is serious business, we don't have time for anybody while we hone our racecraft.

I agree with getting to the track for a day to hang and spectate. Ask questions and generally lurk.
