How to safety wire a ducati rear axle nut

Anybody know the best way to do this? ...or is it even necessary?

Don't have any pictures, but I'm guessing some people are familiar with what I'm talking about.

Do I take the metal clip off and go through the holes that it goes through, or do I leave it on and use the safety wire to secure the clip?

Seems like if I take off the clip and put wire through the same holes, if the nut really wants to spin off, it could cut through the wire (esp. since I got the 0.025 wire).

I haven't looked closely at mine yet, but I would guess wiring the clip in place would be the best.

The clip is doing the job you'd want the wire to do... Just wire the clip itself to prevent it from coming out, and you're all set.

Just heard back from a friend that raced his 848 last year. He said he zip-tied the clip.

That axle nut spins with the wheel, and although it's close to the center, I'm thinking I need to be cautious about how I do it so I don't add weight that might actually INCREASE the chance of the clip coming off....

    Like six inches!
    That was one lucky dude.

I'm not saying don't wire the nut, just stop worrying if Mercury is in retrograde when you do it.

    Edit:
Just noticed the pic, thanks for that.

One thing though, it looks like they've changed the clip to a new style for the 1199.

The old style has those two straight bits, slightly angled away from each other so when you tighten the wire it snugs up and can't slip off.

....the new style doesn't have a similar place...because you know, Ducati.

I'll stop pontificating now and try it when I get home.

Edit: Those pictures were tiny - let's try that again.

Ugggh.....just when I said I'd stop pontificating and got it out of mind, somebody comes up with a good idea

I'll try wiring the new one tonight, cause I can't think of any way to get one of the old ones before I get to the track anyways....then I'd prolly have to ask around. Unless someone on here has one they wouldn't mind bringing "just in case"

Here's a couple of pictures. I take no credit for the wire job as Kyle at Seacoast did the work.
I figure he must know a thing or 2 about it.
