got to clean the carbs, however, the float bowl screws are stripped. got to use a vice grip to get them out- but then I need to replace them? anybody got some extras? I'd order from ronayers, but they take forever to ship and I need to have the bike running before I leave for Vegas (next monday)

slot them with a dremel and use a flathead. That will easily make them functional til your new ones come in. Dremel is required equipment for a race. It's like duct tape. If you can't fix it with a dremel, you can't fix it!!!

cant you just take it to a hardware store & size the bolts?

I replaced the crappy bolts on my GS carbs with steel hex-bolts. Just be careful not to strip the carb body.

i got the screws off. cleaned the carbs- especially the pilot jets.
however, still not running correctly on the left cylinder. starts pissing fuel. Left header not warming up as fast as the right.
So I'm guessing it's getting flooded. Either from no/low spark, or stuck float.
However I can't get a socket to fit in the plug hole to remove the spark plug. Everything I have is too thick walled.
so frustrating.

It's the same with my MZ. You need the plug socket from the OEM tool kit to get the plug out.

Did you replace the float needle? The rubber seal dries out over time and can't be salvaged, in my experience.

If it's pissing fuel out of only one carb it's most likely the float/needle and seat. Do yourself a favor - order the kits for both carbs. As long as your in there...

for the spark plug, go to your local hardware store & buy the cheapest deep socket you can find. They're usually thin enough to get in there.

It's a 18mm I know since I just took mine out. I used a Husky long socket and worked fine without the rubber insert. I used needle nose pliers to grab the plug after it was unscrewed.

My plugs were covered in black carbon and they smelled like fuel. The manual said it could be caused by weak ignition.

My brother's bike is a '94.

The coil wires are almost always the culprit with EX ignition problems. Make sure the connector is clean, tight, and has a positive grasp on the wire. The wires often crack at the connector. Might be worth cutting the old off and putting new higher quality connectors on there. That junk is old and suspect.
