oil filter wrenchIf you are really stuck, hammer a screwdriver through the filter and turn the screwdriver to loosen it. Last resort, but it works. derek |

oil filter wrenchI wouldn't say that it's stuck, but I don't think it will come off without the wrench cause is pretty tight in there, and last time I did the oil change I did put oil on the filter seal before put in it on, I'm kind of affraid to use the screwdriver method since a buddy of mine did that and puncture a hole in his oil cooler so letting him close to my bike is out of the question. |

oil filter wrenchThe "official" hex-wrench/socket thing that slips onto the filter was like $10 so I use that. I have one Suzuki one and one Honda one. Heck if I get a Yamaha and/or Kawasaki I'll probably get their wrenches too, they probably don't change often. The Honda one works on my car too if I ever decide to use it. Easy to overtighten with it but as long as you do it right they come right off. Only PITA is if you get the "wrench" on crooked you'll get the filter off and then make a mess trying to get the wrench off the oil slicked filter. |

oil filter wrenchLike others have said - if installed properly it should be fairly easy to remove. Easiest non-filter specific tool is channel-lock plyers (again, as mentioned) in my opinion. If you use channel-locks to install, be extra careful NOT to overtighten. That's the most common mistake people make with filters. And be sure to wrap a rag or something around the filter when tightening and be EXTRA gentle. Those are super easy to destroy... |

oil filter wrenchI use K&N oil filters. They have a wrench nut welded on the end for easy removal and installation. |

oil filter wrenchOnce the factory filter is off (had to use channel locks), all my oil filters are torqued with my calibrated hands. They never leak and I can also remove them with my hands. |

oil filter wrenchI've used the Vice-Grip large jaw pliers more than once for a stubborn filter. Often the tips of the pliers alone are just enough to get a grip, and fit into tight spaces at various angles. ![]() |

oil filter wrenchI will never use a Bosch oil filter again, ever. Used them for a few months last year on both my car and bike. Probably went through 6 filters. EVERY SINGLE ONE was stuck on good. After the first 2 I actually started finely anti-siezing the filter threads, and well oiling the o-ring. Nearly every time I ended up having to pound a screwdriver through, and not only that, but use a cheater bar on the screwdriver handle just to break it free. And these were not hand tightened, or overtightened, but torqued to OEM specs on both my car and bike. :Thats my filter removal rant. |

oil filter wrenchI have this filter wrench, its never failed me yet. The opposing jaws are spring loaded; can be pulled open to fit a range of filter sizes. Teeth grab in tighter as you apply more force...just attach 3/8" ratchet. ![]() Last edited by keeena : 04-09-07 at 01:19 PM. |

++1If your OCD about doing exactly to factory spec. get one of these. Then u can use a torque wrench and not second guess yourself. Hand tightening works fine too. I've always use a filter cup attachment with a torque wrench and have been golden. if you get a 3/8 ths filter socket thats specific to the filters u use, you wont have to worry about crimping the filter with channel locks. It all comes down to the right tool for the job dude. |
