Definately... Mark had us do each adjustment/modification seperately, and had me ride the bike inbetween each to see how everything affected the bike individually. The TRE made an obvious difference right off the bat.

I just dropped my cams back in the TLR, all nice and dialed in, clearances are set. New plugs installed. Put the radiator(s) back on, gave her a drink of coolant, put the battery box, and battery back on. Throttle bodies in, and tightened...plugged all the electrics back in sans the ATS. TLRMan - I may need your number on speed dial. I'm in the same boat. Just about finished w/ my re-assembly (2 weeks late @ this point, mostly thanks to long lead time on factory parts). I decided to do a whole bunch of things all at once (I know, I know)...startup attempt is gonna be interesting. I should stock some extra plugs.

The valve train in the TLR/S SV's can be a little intimidating. You just got twice as much as an I-4, so it's like setting up 2 I-4's. Dialing in the camshafts is the same, but you do it twice.
The V's don't fire evenly either, so when you get the front TDC, you gotta remember that the rear cylinder comes up 270 degrees later. BUT, if you go by the cam timing marks, don't expect to be properly inline to check the valve lash! Front cams look like this> \ / rear cams look like this> / \ .

It's not really that bad, considering you got 2 camchains a bunch of gears, and 4 camshafts. If the engine is torn down, you would be more likely to line ALL of the marks up. I got guys asking me why they won't line up, when they take the engine cover off, to set everything. I tell them to keep cranking the engine around by hand, and they will eventually line up.

I don't know if you noticed, but the gear stack on the TLR, has a whacko tooth combo to get to the 2 to 1 ratio, of crank to camshafts.

The reason for this, if you were to set it up using exact 2 to 1 ratios, the same teeth on the gears would end up meshing at the same place all the time, and would fail prematurely. Example, cam lobe starts to ramp up on valve, and puts a load on the gear teeth. So, by using an odd combination, but still drive the valvetrain 2 to 1, the gears will mesh at many different points spreading out the load on the teeth.

Yup, TLR. Cams weren't a problem. Double-checking is name of the game...I caught a couple stupid things second time around. Factory manual + TLZone = no worries. Its the combo of everything else I did that has me crossing my fingers...

I bought it in sub-zero weather 2 mos ago. Battery was shagged, hard to start, fouling plugs when attempting (when I bought it). So I just went right to tear-down mode. haha. Rewired the harness (mostly preventative maint.), TRE, airbox flapper and plate trim mods, new plugs, hard-wired starter relay and main power (plug was trashed, very poor contacts), new exhaust, removed PAIR sys and new battery. Phew. Thats just the stuff that could affect the motor running...

I'm pretty meticulous, but I feel an electrical gremlin sneaking up on me. Lets hope not. Waiting on some high-temp wire loom, and then I should be about ready to start her up. You'll know somethings wrong if I start PM'ing ya.

I know I'll have to sync TB and set TPS, then get to Rob's Dyno for tune.

[edit] Oh-I caught wind of a air sensor mod earlier in this thread. Haven't heard of that mod yet, fill me in.

No internal mods yet (clutch springs don't count, right? ). Mostly a preemptive strike before the likely suspects become a pain in the ass.

Fill me in on this air temp sensor thing. Does it just involve replacing it w/ a resistor to fool ECU air temp reading? Or move it somewhere? I think its under the triple...which puts it right over the radiator. Nah...doubt thats it. I'll have to cheat on NESR...sneak over to the Zone.

and barnett springs work well all for around 15 bucks

relocate it to the right hand air tube. Won't see the heat of the engine, which gives it false reads.

Hey Mark, I'm thinking Sunday morning-ish would be cool. I don't know if you're working on your bike at all Sunday, but I know I have no plans before the GP races start at 4, which I would like to be home for. Or even late afternoon Saturday after the group ride. What's your schedule looking like?
