I use VP Chain Wax. I've used the Motul product and Maxima product in the past... they all seem to work pretty well.

I run E-Tech in my Strom. Nice stuff and priced right.

Try Motorex 622 Strong. Best chain lube I ever used.

Anybody ever try that dupont teflon lube? I haven't used it myself but I have heard it works wonders.

I may be wrong but I thought wd-40 was bad for the o-rings and not recommened.
I use Kerosene to clean my chain then I just lube it with Suzuki chain lube.
This seems to do the trick for me, however I did hear good stuff about the Dupont teflon spray and I will try it next time because it's clear so your chain looks clean.

That is just an urban ledgend. Any chain worth its salt will not be damaged by WD-40.

I use straight up WD-40 as my only chain lube. It's inexpensive and reduces the parasitic losses in the final drive of the motorcycle.

Watch all the naysayers come out of the woodwork saying WD-40 doesn't lubricate chains.

coincidentally, my buddy with a zx12 uses wd-40 too. It is o-ring safe, but it breaks down quickly... you have to apply every 200 to 250 miles. He kept a small can with him on the bike.

WD40 to clean, and Chain Wax to lube.

I'm going to have to try the kerosene thing for cleaning.

I used to use WD-40 to clean but the biggest problem I had was that even after you wiped the chain dry, WD-40 would get inside the chain and when you went for a ride to heat up the chain, the WD-40 would fling out all over the place expecially on the tire (NOT GOOD).

I use Chain Clean by Motorex. It works better then WD-40 I think and it completely dries up within 5 mins of you spraying it on the chain.

I use Motorex Chain Strong lube after I'm cleaning. I like it, it has yet to fling off.

Just how does chain "lube" lubricate an o-ring chain?

The o-ring keeps the lube for the pins in place, to lube the pin against the I.D. of the bushing, not the surfaces that the rollers contact, {the sprocket teeth and O.D. of the chain bushing}. How much lube is needed for them, I suppose, can be argued. I don't see how not lubing them can be good. Granted, there might not be a lot of rotational movement there, {lots of pivotal}, but there is still is high pressure metal to metal contact. Lube would indeed serve as some sort of cushion.

I don't feel the film strength of any chain lube is worth mucking with the mess. WD-40 and DID take me >15k mi. w/o a problem.

I only use WD-40 on my 12R. The chain has over 23k miles on it and it still is well within its safe tolerances with plenty of room left for adjustment.

I only use WD-40 on my other 3 motorcycles and haven't had any issues either.

+4 for the Motorex 622 strong.

I asked the question when I was starting out and Dave told me to try this.

I just changed out my OEM chain and sprocket ... 20k miles.
It could of gone another 3 to 5k miles but I want to ride this summer,
not work on the bike so I swapped it out.

The rear sprocket still looked good, the chain was a little stretched out
with no tight spots and the front sprocket was starting to look like
sharkfins.

Every Saturday morning before riding, I would clean and grease the chain
and clean the bike with Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish.

This year, I am reversing the front sprocket at 10k miles to see if I can
get longer life out of the chain and sprockets. (steel OEM for long life)

Edit, Yes, I put over 19 thousand miles in a year and two months.

I've been told Home Depot, and Lowes. Everytime I've gone into one they say they don't carry any. So I just use Motorex's Chain clean product.

Some Hafners gas stations carry it. You can get it at almost any home heating oil company too.
