I'm planning to replace my '97 GSX-R600 brake pads before the next TTD. Any recommedations? Any brands to stay away from? Thanks.

EBC HH pads. That's what i've got on my street/trackday & race bikes & like em. Haven't had much chance to venture away from em & try out anything else, but they're the tried & true choice among the majority of riders & racers that want a pad that performs well, hot or cold.

nah, no place specific I can recommend... but ya can find em up at the track, your local dealership or online.

I'd be interested in hearing some other alternatives to the EBC's though, just to hear other options.

I've read good things online today about EBC, Vesrah, Galfer, Ferodo, and DP pads. Hopefully some other riders will chime in. Thanks.

I have used EBC and DP. Personally I prefer the feel of the DP HH+ pads. I use the DP race HH+ on my race bike and the SDP Sport HH+ pads for the street/track days. To me they have slightly more control and feel over the comparable EBC ones I used. I was turned on to them by Bruce Meyers who has never let me down on any suggestions yet.
Hope this helps. Cheers

p.s.- they also seem to wear very well without eating my rotors.

I'm going with DP HH pads next... in fact... I need to place and order for them now.

As for EBC HH... I've heard good and terrible reviews of them. They have tons of initial bite, but after that they don't offer much in feel or progressive stopping.

i just put vesrah on my street bike and with only about 1k logged on them they seem to be good. to bad its hard for me to tell because i also switched at the same time to ss lines and a brembo master. but i went from death grip that faded fast and was inconsistent. to smooth reliable one and two finger braking that is always the same and consistent.

if that helps at all. plus pk was the one to turn me to the vesrah for hard street riding

I'm not sure where you can get them locally... they're listed in the parts-unlimited catalog, so I would imagine any dealer/shop could order them for you. Or you could check ebay.

I've also heard great things about performance friction and carbon lorraine.

Peter also put Vesrah pads, front & rear on my CBR and I love 'em. Even with my not-so-perfect rotors, they have great response and very little, if any, fade.

Well, when I had a rear brake line, they were great.

They'll be great again at the end of the week.

Im running vesrahs on my RC. They stop well enough on the track to lift the rear wheel at bit. They do fad a little bit when they get hot but nothing a few clicks on the lever hasnt fixed for me.

probably the difference from the street to the track. never faded for me but i don't brake that hard on the street and don't ride hard enough that a little brakes and a down shift doesn't settle me in just fine. plus i don't brake late into the corner

I've had ebc hh's on the sv since the day i bought it last fall. No complaints as far as eating up rotors or fade, i ride at a pretty quick pace on the street (along with daily commuting) and track days where it hasn't let me down.

Gafler on the front of my Rex and MAN are they nice. Nicer than the EBC's I just put on the racebike. They tend to have initial bite and then go numb.

DP HH+ have insane stopping power. Lots of bite AND feel.

When I saw the material FALL off an EBC HH pad with very little use on it, I stopped using them.

Performance Friction are good, long lasting pads, but have a little bit of a wooden feeling to me...

I liked the EBC HH pads I had in my old Honda, but I wasn't hard on my brakes. I will say that I was locking up the rear a lot when I put the EBC HH pads in the rear.

It was good in an odd way because after the 4 or 5th time of locking up the rear I learned when to stop applying pressure to the lever. It also taught me how to control the bike in a rear lockup.

Stop me if I'm wrong but if you put semi metallic pads in the rear its not suppose to have as much initial bite as HH pads, thus minimizing the chance of a lockup?

I am a bit surprised that no one has mentioned Carbone Lorraine which is one of Spiegler recommended pad company.

I have tried the HH, pads and they were All right. I only got 1/2 season out of the HH pads. While the feel was alright, I felt it could have been better. My local shop guy turned me onto Carbone Lorraine. I will not go back to any other brand. I ran the entire season with little wear and the feel has put a fat smile on my face. Different flavors for different riders. Check em out.

I'd keep the rear pads stock.
And go with sintered metal only for the fronts.
