I'm really not a huge fan of the brake lever feel that my 06 SV naked has. The stainless lines I put on helped A LOT, as did a couple bleeds, but it's still not where I want it. I do plan on getting pads soon, but my problem is more so with the feel of the lever.

It feels like a vast majority of the lever travel doesn't do a whole lot, then all of the sudden it starts to work little by little. I'd like the lever to feel like it's actually doing something earlier in the pull.

So, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any M/Cs to look out for on EBay that would be a cheap and effective upgrade. I know a lot of M/Cs are mechanically the same for Suzukis, so I was wondering which ones I should specifically look out for.

I put a 2006-2007 gsxr 600 radial master on my 2003 sv 650. This was a cheap upgrade and there are plenty on e-bay. Braking at loudon was never so easy!

I'm willing to bet there is a lot of bleeding you can do with what you have. Bleeding brakes well and properly can probably save people tons of money on after market/oem parts. Buy a six pack, start bleeding your brakes when you open your first beer. Continue bleeding until you reach the sixth beer. At that point wrap about 6 zip ties around your clip on squeezing the brake lever as hard as you can. Leave it tied over night. When you check it in the morning you shouldn't be able to squeeze the lever anymore. If you have some room to squeeze, try bleeding some more.

I'm still using stock m/c, and at my current riding level i'm perfectly fine with them. But at the same time better braking power couldn't hurt. I have done SS lines and HH pads which changed things dramatically for me.

Yeah, I may give them another bleed. I did the overnight zip tie method, tapping with a screwdriver handle, etc. They probably could stand to be bled again though, I did more mityvac bleeding in the beginning than the standard style. Only to later find out that the mityvac is really only good for filling empty lines with fluid.

I mainly just wanted to keep my eyes peeled for good m/c's on EBay. If there is one area I never mind spending money it's braking, especially for improved feel. Again, stopping power isn't my issue with the SV, it's just feel.

If you are going to bleed again, take the calipers off the forks, insert 1/4" plywood between the pads and have a helper hold the caliper as high in the air as possible while bleeding. This lets the air bubble rise to calipers rather than trying to force the air down to them, something air is not eager to do in a liquid.

I'm confused as to where exactly I should hold the calipers when they're off the bike. Can you MSPaint me a diagram?

he is saying to hold the caliper up above the master cylinder. the air should rise. never tried it myself but might work.

Does not even have to be above the master, just as high as the brake line will allow. Air bubbles rise, so forcing them down to the calipers to bleed the air out is tough at times. By raising the calipers, you make the air naturally go toward the bleeder rather than away (like it does every time you release the brake lever with the calipers mounted normally).
