How long should bike run on battery alone?

OK, I'm trying to get this Suzuki GS of mine running. Charged the battery w/ a tender, started second try. Bike ran for 20 sec then died. Then 10 sec, then a couple seconds. Then wont start -> battery already dead.

So I know the battery can't hold much of a charge. I figure I need to test the R/R and Generator to see which component is shot. I've got an Optima Yellow Top auto battery that I plan to use to keep the bike running so I can run a few electrical tests. How long should the bike run off of the battery alone?

PS - I started this project by cleaning and rebuilding carbs (didn't separate the bank, just replaced all jets, needle valve, idle screws, set float height, etc...). There doesn't appear to be a fuel delivery issue (carbs leaked fuel...another story tho). Motor sounded good for the short time it did run. Figured it should keep running once started -> this is why I'm checking charging system.

A bike should run for at least an hour on a good bike battery alone. That's under load.

Cool, didn't know it would run for that long. I guess the current battery is really toast. It has a mfr. date of '06, so I'm guessing that this bike has been deep-discharging the battery for a while.

Thanks.

Unplug the headlight if you want to get a little more life out of it.

It depends on how good your battery is, how much your reving. The more you spin the quicker it will die.

Just idling & 5k for a short bit in order to test alternator output and R/R.
