Oil leak

1994 ZX-11. The bike has given me no problems at all, but this morning I started it up and as it warmed it began to smoke. shut her down, and investigated. I have a serisouly slow oil leak coming from what appears to be the oil pan (I do cars, not bikes, but I'm learning). The oil had dripped onto the headers and just smoked off. I'm still full, and it's pretty much jsut an annoying problem and something I excpect to get worse as time passes.

Not looking for advice, unless you've got some, this is just posting of my poor fortune.

Oil leak

Do you have any Harley parts on it?

I don't know anything about ZX11's, but it may be something simple.
Is there actually a pan with a gasket you could inspect, or are you looking at splitting the engine cases?

Oil leak

Is it coming from the drain plug? Did someone forget the washer?

Yes! wow smart guy. I went out and checked that this afternoon and sure enough...

I chedk the drain plug and there is oil above the plug so unless it managed to splatter from the plug then that's not the case. It can't possibly be that easy.

there appears to be a pan so if that gasket is gone that's simply an afternoon.

not sure where the oil filter is on that bike but if its coming loose it will weep oil down to the bottom of the engine.
