Best motor oil / change intervals

I know its probably been debated 100 times but whats the best oil for my R6? Its track use only so how often should I swap it / with what? I use Amsoil synthetic 20/50 in my Buell with good results.

and let me spare all of you s the trouble and I'll post the obligatory and the too often used oh ya, - in your face.

Every one has a preference but if you use Amsoil you should get there motorcycle oil annalist chart that was done by a 3rd party (or so they say) it has about 20 different oils compared in it with about 12 different tests performed on each.

Amsoil in EVERYTHING I own

I've used Amsoil, can't justify the cost or PITA way to go to the "store" to get it.

Pennzoil in the KLR, racebike, pitbike, etc

Mobile 1 in the Rex

i usually use the suzuki synthetic stuff...but i've got the mobile in it right now with no complaints. I change it like 2 or 3 times a race season. i dunno if it needs to be done that much or whatever but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

oil is oil...why spend all this money for oil that won't break down for 10k miles just to have you change it every 2,500 to 3,000 miles. regular old Dino will work just fine, and always has. I run a synth blend,(castrol), make boatloads of power, and the TLR has something like 27,000 miles on the clock. When I had the top end apart earlier this season, there was no measurable wear that I would worry about, and I'm pretty anal about my engines. I know they changed specifics aimed at getting higher mileage out of auto engines, but if you got a JASO stamp on the bottle you are OK.
Just don't use Fram oil filters....made with cardboard, and hot glue.
You are better off with OEM, I had a cool source of filters that cost me about 4 bucks each, but they dropped the line..Pity, they were made by the same manufacturer that made the OEM filters.

The current oil filter on it is drilled for safety wire, could it be Yamaha OEM? and like 13udda said, 10/40? I'm probably staying with Amsoil.

Unless you are Joe blow racer, and want to run a "0" weight oil...
run whatever Yamaha said to put in it. BTW Joe Blow's engine gets torn down after every race, and rebuilt.
Chances are it's not OEM, probably K&N
If you change the oil filter..you do change it right? Just buy a hose clamp, tighten it up around the filter, and wire that up so it won't twist loose.
OEM is fine

You may find this handy: WIX Filters : Filter Look-Up

Wix filters are top notch and very reasonably priced (especially if you buy them by the case). I use them on all my engines and get them at my local auto parts store.

Money to burn?? HA! just spending less on heroine since getting the track bike and my thirsty boat is gone. Don't the tire vendors bring rains with them to TTD? I haven't had a chance to find an extra set of rims yet so I'll just get rains put on at the track if the weather goes to chit.

Oil- don't want to waste $ just want to be safe with a motor thats going to spend almost all of its time near red line
