beer time

i've been tinkering for the past 2 days straight.

today i decided to run seafoam through my tank amongst other doodads here & there. tank was almost empty of gas when I dumped the seafoam in.

the bike (air cooled) had been running for the past 2 hours probably in the driveway. choke on for maybe half that time to run the stuff through the fuel system.

I dont know if it's the seafoam (I hope that's all it is), but my crankcase vent hose is spewing out white smoke; which doesnt smell very good. no bad smoke from the exhaust. oil level looks fine.

the bike is also extremely hot. partly because it's been sitting there running for 2 hours in the hot sun. I dont think it should be at all lean. I just put the exhaust on, rejetted, and the test ride went very well...

the bike is too damn hot to touch right now. all I can do is come inside in the AC and drink beers. I'll go back out when I'm 4 beers deep and start a-fixin' stuff.

so there was a point to this somewhere.... you think the smoke is from the seafoam? would the concentration of seafoam in the gas mimic the bike being lean & cause it to run hot? or is it just that it's fucking hot & muggy outside and my bike is air cooled?

You are more likely to cause a problem with sea foam than fix one. If your goal is to clean out the motor, letting it sit at idle is one of the worst ways to do it. I've used it in the past, but I let it siphon through a hose into the intake with the motor running, then shut off engine for ten minutes, then ran it up the highway for a half hour. Without knowing how much you used, or if the crankcase vent was smoking before, or what kind of bike it is, I don't think anyone is going to be able to tell you much. Get it hot and change the oil.

Why would you run an air cooled bike for two hours stationary?

Are you trying to kill your bike? Is that it?

Do you not know what air cooled means? No air = no cool. You can't leave it sitting idle for two hours. With the choke on. It requires airflow across the radiator to keep it cool. This did not occur to you?

there is some sarcasm in that statement.

air cooled & oil cooled.

Doc is right; it was beer time.

there was only a dabble of gas in the tank when I put the seafoam in. thought it would run out a lot sooner.

it should be fine; it's just that seafoam smells

No, it *should* be on fire. Apparently the patron saint of poor motorcycle maintenance was watching over you.

What do you think cools the oil?

If you're going to leave your bike running for an extended period of time, it needs to be watercooled. Since your bike does not have a factory watercooling system, a bit of retrofit is necessary. Simply take a garden hose, attach it to the bike's air intake, and turn it on with a light but steady flow. Not only will this keep your bike cool, it gives the additional benefit of squeaky clean cylinder walls and can help remove unsightly deposits from the inside of your header pipes.

Will this also work with my factory water cooled bike? As in like double water cooled?
