In the big picture, it is a very small change.

NOTE: If you're going to change sprocket sizes anyway, then I can understand the change. But if you are only changing to 520's and not changing sizes, I can't see any benefit on the street.

Oh yea I hear ya there. My intention was to just change the gearing. The reason for the 520 was just because that was the kit I found. Next round I want to look into going back to the orig. 535? 530? I forget. and steel sprockets. I only got about 6k out of the first set before the rear ring was losing teeth and the tension was pulled all the way back. No I dont lube the chain with wd40 or anything. It just wears quicker. I actually check it and lube the chain every ride or every other depending on the nature of the ride. I got a warranty replacement, So I'm back on the same set up just an xw ring chain this time.

I disagree with the analogy. A 520 and 530 chain+sprocket set are damn near the same (I check froogle quickly)

Thats like saying you should keep your D208 instead of upgrading to Pilot Powers

Instead of ratio changes why not just ride around in 5th gear

real racering need gear changes so that max HP is delivered or an extra shift is not required on a specific track etc. It does allow you to putt around in first 1 mph slower; very important and potential power wheelies on under powered bikes.

yes 520 lighter and the God of unsprung weight

there is probably many other more practical ways to throw money at your ride. Invest in a weekend in Vermont
