End of season oil change?

What I do....

Before storage I put in new cheap dyno oil and a new filter
I also give it a healthy shot of Fogging oil

Spring take I good ride then drain it and put in

MObil 1 4xt motorcycle oil stays till next fall.

I can only parrot that supposedly old oil has acidic combustion by-products that can corrode internal surfaces. Especially in storage where moisture accumulation will remain until motor is hot again.

It's true, oil builds up acid from the by-products of combustion, but it also contains buffers that neutralize it. Old oil will not hurt your engine by corroding it. I can show you parts that sat in 5000 mile, used oil for a few years with no corrosion.

You're all a bunch of anal-retentive pussies.............I've been riding for 17 years and I haven't winterized one of my bikes!

Just get a new bike every spring.........

and i also use same oil.

just changed oil today. popped in the cheap FRAM car filter. fits nicely. FRAM does not list bike filter for ZX10. i found a cross ref.# awhile ago.

don't worry, i have OEM filter when spring comes.

I just leave the oil in them that's been in there for about 40k or so. Then plug in the heated gear a few times during the wintah and go for a rip and that's it. I love a nice cold tire 200 foot power burnout on a cold tire. I lube the chain before the park in the shed.

I also use Mobil 1 4T oil. Last winter I changed it thinking, I won't be riding anymore, but nice weather just kept holding up on weekends. So I was riding up until christmas. Now my oil change costs about $45- oil & filter. When the spring came, I rode for a while then changed the oil again. This year, I'm thinking about changing the oil right before I put the bike for storage, and keep riding with the same oil in spring. Too expensive to throw away a fresh oil ( changing it again in spring ).
Other than that I just put some Stabil in gas. That's all I do for winterizing the bike.

Kurt, holy sh@t! You RIDE that ZRX! That's a bit more than 15 k miles a year ! I average about 9k miles a year, and I thought that was a lot, hah. Well, I don't ride in winter though

Yeah Kurt, see ya next season! Although I'm not putting my bike away just yet. Still hoping to see temps in upper 40s-50s this year so I can go for a spin now and then. The bike will go to "hibernation" when salt hits the roads. Don't wanna be riding on that sh@t.

It is advisable to charge them at least once a month to prevent that problem.

If you do deplete them below that 10.6 level, they will only hold 80% of a total charge. Next time you do it, it gets worse.

Yes you have been lucky.....
