Help, need to know the allen wrench to use on SV650S front axle

The machine in question is a 2006 SV650S and I thought the multi-size wheel tool would do it and it doesn't fit with the 17mm on it. 17mm is too big but it is the smallest on the wheel tool I bought. Searching with Google hasn't turned up anything except that the 99-02 models were 17mm. Anyone know for sure as I am desperate to get the front wheel off.

Thanks,
Dave

Is it a bad thing if I am contemplating layering the inside of the bolt with vaseline and then filling it with JB Weld and leaving one of my cheap wrenches on to harden overnight?

hhmmm. interesting thought. not sure if it would work.

i do know on my R6, the back end of a spark plug socket works perfect. basically you take a 3/8 drive spark plug socket, insert a 3/8 drive extension through the top of the socket and attach your ratchet.

did that make sense?

Thanks man, that sounds interesting.

I will check that in the garage in a sec before I leave to go buy some tools. I measured the hole and it seems to be a 12mm and my largest allen is a 10mm (except the wheel tool I got which is 17 up to 22). It seems right too as the 10mm is way closer to the size than the 17mm.

While I was at it I took the caliper and measured the rear wheel nut and that seesm to be a 24mm socket (not allen) and as that has a lot of torque I will try to find a 6 sided.

I used a big bolt with two nuts at the end......the bolt head will fit right inside the axel and u can use the bolt side to but it back on.....just remember the pich bolts....two you leave tight and two are to be loose

if you want to borrow what i have give me a shout 781-858-1545 I have the socket and bolts that fit it...

Yep, my measurements were on target and the 12mm fit like a glove. Sears had one but only the key style so I will order a 1/2" drive socket for when I put the wheel back on.

Signed up for the 28th today too... gotta fess up to the wife and probably leave a little early since we have plans in Boston that night. It will be worth it. LOL!

Thanks all!

$8 is cheap. The 22mm alen socket you need on a Kawasaki is about $60 from Snap-On which is why I use the sparkplug socket method mentioned above except with 1/2" sockets. A 13/16" sparkplug socket is about 21mm on its hex end which is close enough to 22mm:

Or just skip Snap-On and get your correct 22mm socket/key at a decent price.

$60 is insane for that when you're lucky if you use it once a year if you ride a ton and wear out tires constantly.

Mine is something bizarre like a 23mm socket.. but it sure didn't cost over $10 IIRC.
