where do i get bearings for a trailer? mine collapsed due to a lack of grease - my fault

if its a dumb question, whatever, i just dont know how to fix it or where to go and i need to be able to trailer my bikes

Be ready with a gear puller, some PJ Blaster and heat my friend, because if it's an older trailer its a bitch. I redid the bearings on my boat trailer and it took a solid day, ending in me cutting the old ones off with a torch. Best of luck to you, and I hope it goes more smoothly than my experience did.

Dennis, if you can bring it to my place i should have all the tools you'll need. we can get new bearings from the place in quincy. if weman's not too busy with doing his gay stuff, maybe he can help out too.

Fixed dummy!

Wheel bearings are most definitely at the bottom of the 5 foot shit pile, but worth it considering a good mechanic can get 300-500$ for replacing a 20-50$ part.

If its off a home made trailer or even a pre-built it should just be a standard size that you can order through a CAP or equivalent.

They are model specific, as is the seal - but they use standard sized bearings. There is a number stamped on them that any parts guy worth their weight will be able to cross over.

The bearing have completely collapsed. I'll be scraping them out of there with a springhook probably as they are nothing but a rustball. The axle is a 2" id and I believe it's a 5-bolt system. Anyway, I'll check it out tonight and get the trailer sorted.

While you're getting the bearings - look at a bearing buddy, or an auto greaser.

Been there, done that, replaced the bearings on the side of the road - ONCE...

as soon as you put a new one in the other is gonna go if it hasn't been maintained, is replacing the entire assembly worth it to know its not gonna go again?

oh yeah, one side locked up doing 70mph in the high speed lane 495 south - i drove this trailer to jennings gp and back, pocono and back, vir and back, several trips to nhis and back and i never even knew to grease the bearings... also the person i purchased it from i am 99% sure never knew to either and she put about 6k miles on it - im a moron

If thats the case and it something you rely on like you do, from my experience with fixerupers once you replace a broken part it forces the older stuff to fail because it cannot perform like the new stuff and it becomes a major headache. It may be cheaper in the long run to just replace and maintain new stuff rather than try and keep fixing the old stuff, especially when its something you need.

especially if the tires are locking up at 70 on 495. your lucky nothing worse happened i have heard some trailer horror stories.

No messing with the bearings, just replace the whole hub from e-trailer

a grease fitting drilled into the dust cap makes it easy to just stick a grease gun on and grease the bearing without taking anything apart
