ok so i just put a set of hids in the bike there 10k. the problem im having is some times one will cut out. i already put a 25 fuse in there for them and was told i may need to put in a relay does anyone have any advise? anyone have to put in a relay? does any one have any advise on size and where to put a relay?

that's happening to my friend on his 8k kit. we havent pulled the front end apart to look at the HID kit yet.
thinking it may be an overheating problem

i thaught that at first but where my ballast are is right under my intake tubes and i cut a little off the bottom so they get air flow. the other thing is if i shut them off and turn them right back on the one that goes out will come on.

That happened to me on my Ninja. The ballast slowly died and needed to be replaced. Eventually it would not even spark the bulb. I hope its not the case for you, but it was for me.

I have a really hard time figuring out why people put the 8k/10k/12k hid kits in their cars and bikes. Isn't the intent of doing an HID conversion to improve visibility? With 4300k being optimal for producing the most visible light to the human eye, anything far beyond that is purely for "show". But perhaps that is in fact the main motivating factor for some. Driving with blue lighting in anything but 100% clear nights renders them practically useless.

they are riding to newbury st to pose. and we all know chics dig purple lights.

I had 6K in my Ninja and that is about as blue as high as I would go. My bike was blue and it gave a mean HID look, but they were still bright as hell.

To each their own.

And I'd be careful about upping the fuse too much, I know HIDs only draw additional current when they spark, but you don't want to melt a wiring harness.

Sounds like either your bulb or ballast is defective. I'd exchange it. Also, have you measured the voltage at the headlight wires to make sure it's not dropping below 12.5ish?

In all seriousness, I would get a 6k kit TOPS. Once you get above that HID temperature the light output falls to less than a standard halogen bulb. On top of that, the super high temp HID bulbs make you a massive cop target.

If you want to stop by my house I'll help you take a look. I've done a few HID installs on cars.

thanks for everyones input they are fine now just needed a little more air where the ballast were mounted. as for the light output i think there fine both in fair weather an bad rain that ive ridden in with them
