Question

Tire repair opinions

Imagine if.......

New Michelin tire picks up a nail on center.(Rear tire)
Nail removed is a typical nail used to secure shingles.
My tires have med. size chicken strips if that helps.

Would you have this tire repaired with a proper plug from the inside out or turf the tire?

Just wondering.

Re: Tire repair opinions

I would have first, grown a set of balls, plugged the fuckin thing, made chicken strips dissapear, and then raced on it. This whole bullshit about a plugged tire will kill you is just that BULLSHIT.

Plug forget about it and ride the betch.

Re: Tire repair opinions

Ok... i'll take the other side...

Throw it out and replace it. Seriously. You have only have two tires on your bike and one of them is now compromised. If one tire fails on a car, it's an inconvenience. If one tire fails on a bike, it's catastrophic.

There. Now you have both sides of the argument. Pick one. Now wan't that easy?

Re: Tire repair opinions

I rode with a plugged tire for about 1000 miles (4000 miles for the life of the tire which is above average for my bike), the tire held up fine I just found that it began to wear a little quicker. I took the tire up to 160-180 mph a few times with complete confidence. Plug it, just don't be disappointed if it doesn't last as long an un-plugged tire would.

Re: Tire repair opinions

Thanks for the feedback.
I have had 2 tires in the past repaired with a patch that is installed from the inside. On both occasions the repair was unnoticeable.

Re: Tire repair opinions

PLUG IT!!!! they sell kits that are a patch and plug. you prep the tire push it through and when you pull it back out it patches the inside of the tire and plugs the hole.

04ZRX knows all about it.

the proper way is to plug and patch the tire, BUT i rode almost 4000 miles on a plugged rear tire.

I wouldn't be comfortable using anything but this...

You can get them here:

Re: Tire repair opinions

+1 Plug it with the tool below. Especially if it's in the center. I may feel differently if it was on the side.

arguement ,you made a statement with nothing to back it up

why is a plug failure catastraphic? unless you panic and grab at the brake with your hamfist

if a plug fails, it leaks, just like the tire that picks up a nail, no difference

if you've damaged a cord, and the cord fails, if you can't recognize it riding before something bad happens, then you have no business on a bike
