Really sluggish on the take off and stutters like a bastard if I hold the revs near 4800-5100 ish. I have to cruise at at least 6k to keep things smooth, I'm guessing my carbs need to be cleaned but is there any other reason it would stutter/bog like that at such a specific rpm range?

I'd bet 90% of all non-ignition engine problems are dirty carbs, 5% valve clearance, 4% Wrong jets, 1% real mechanical problems. Before a real mechanic takes my head off, I'm just making an educated guess based on my experience.

cool, it's been getting progressively worse now the stutter I can deal with but traffic is really starting to suck. Having parts cleaned and serviced is a hell of a lot better than needing new stuff. And sorry for the noob question

eta I just remembered the lil D-bag I bought it off of said he just had them done!

If he just had them cleaned there is a good chance they are not in sync. requires one making a Manometer or buying a Carbtune or the like for around $100.

Try using some sea foam or Yamalube ringfree cleaner at first. But it could require removal and deap cleaning.

I'm going to try that first because guess what, found out last light I have a slow leak in my rear tire so looks like I'll be getting a new set. now to find some good tires

If taking the carbs apart seems daunting, give TLRMan (Mark) a PM. He's straightened out more NESR fuel systems than Kham has gotten tickets from the Po Po.

My issue was that my carbs were running on the lean side for the newer ethanol-laced gas.

Mark did the following:

• raised the needles
• adjusted the air/fuel mixture
• synched the carbs (very important)

And I repacked the can on my header to give a little more backpressure. If you have an older aftermarket pipe, you might consider repacking it.

Every little bit has helped me in a HUGE way.

+1 on TLRMan... unfortunately he's on the other side of the state.

Sounds like you just need to go through the whole bike. Clean the air filter, new plugs, pull the carbs & soak the jets etc.

i think ill be taking my carbs off to be cleaned and tuned soon, the ninja is running a lil crappy at low rpm lately as well

uhg Way beyond my reach but I might know of a couple people who could help me out, If not my boss is old friends with the guy that owns RJ's in nash and he said he's pretty decent.

Not sure if you are breaking my balls but say I'm cruising in 3rd doing 45ish if traffic slows down to about 30-35 it stutters in third so I have just been down shifting to second to keep it above 6k rpm. I'm used to cages taching out at 6 so maybe I'm under revving, is 6k-8k rpm normal cruising rpm?
