1098 fried todayNot a good week for me when it comes to 2 wheeled vehicles. For the past week I've been having issues with my headlights/tail lights/running lights/blinkers intermittently going out. Well today I noticed a nasty smell (like rotten eggs) and I thought I was just driving by something nasty. Well next time I stopped it was still there so i shut the bike off to have a look. When I shut the bike off it sounded like the fuel pump was still going. So I hoped on and fired it up and started to head home where I could take stuff apart and figure out what was going on. About 15 mins from my house she let out a huge backfire and died. All electrical completely useless. I'm figuring its the voltage regulator. Hopefully the dealer will take care of this. |

Re: 1098 fried todayGreat.... indefinitely broken ![]() Rectifrier is more like it. After reading around it seems like a lot of 07s are having the same problem. That explains why they are back ordered. |

Re: 1098 fried todayAnyone know if the 848's have the same issue? |

Re: 1098 fried todayyup its been a common issue with almost all ducati sbk's. Seems as though "batch's" of them go bad not all. 1098/848 share the same rectifier as 999's (and pretty sure 749 but can't remember at the moment). |

Re: 1098 fried todayis the "rectifier" the same thing as the voltage regulator? I don't see a rectifier in the parts catalog. aside from the battery getting cooked (the smell), is it likely that anything else got taken out? think I can get the dealer to fix this being that I am not the original owner? |

Re: 1098 fried todayCheck with Dunbar Eurosports or BCM Ducati as Im sure they have the regulators in stock. Im 95% that this is the problem and they can take care of it in less then 1 hour. Youll be back riding in not time. |

Re: 1098 fried todayWell, It looks like the warranty will cover it, and it is transferrable. Now I just gotta wait. It looks like I may lose a good chunk of what is left of the riding season ![]() |

Re: 1098 fried todayI don't think I've seen a 1098/848, or even a 749/999 fry a regulator. Last I heard of that being a 'common' issue was 748/916/996/ST2 era, and Duc has gotten better about providing proper airflow over the regulators to stop that problem. |

A smokin' one at that! ![]() Anyway back on topic... sorry about the bike trouble. Hope its not spread the trouble elsewhere. Get that thing back on the road! |
