Break-in

I thought I'd bring up the old break-in argument again. Only this time I come armed with info! In the past I've always preached about the benefits of a "hard" break in, typically lasting about 150 miles. My opinion was formed after reading various articles by Kevin Cameron and Nick Ienatsch (quoting Rob Muzzy), as well as personal experience. I felt compelled to pass this info on in hopes that people wouldn't blindly follow the owners manual, which I believe is a cover-your-ass cop-out on the manufacturers part. So here, finally, is someone that has written what I consider a concise yet definitive explanation (with pictures!) of proper break in
procedures. Let the arguments begin!

Paul,

I guess we'll have a great time breaking in the new racebike...right.

Year round riding / racing, here we come!

I don't totally agree with the break-in advice you referenced, while I dom't think there is much wrong with the advice, it is my understanding that the purpose of break-in is heating/cooling cycles and surface hardening of the metals and the complete cooling between sessions should be stressed

I dunno....the pictures show the proof, and what he said does make sense. I'm going to beat the snot out of the first brand new bike I get, and see how it works! Actually, I may be trying that out on a new TL motor before I get a new bike...cuz I don't ever want to get rid of the TL!

Well, the Air Froce stipulates that their officers move every three years, which for me is November. I should be hearing within the next week or two what my next assignment will be, but it's looking like Los Angeles with a move date of ~February.

That is, of course, if we're not at war in which case they may delay all moves! We'll see...

Just when I'd started to forget about that night, you go and bring it up again!

That was truly a night to remember. I just wish I COULD remember it!
