Well, not strictly true. He showed enough promise that he can advance to expert within half a season and make a reasonable impact in the expert class. This is what he is committed to doing. He has been given USE of a bike and the support of a manager (clive) and pit-bitch (me) as long as he lives up to expectations.

I have no doubt that there will be an amicable parting of ways should Dennis goof off or fuck up (that's legal jargon) enough that the team doesn't meet expectations.

Well, this is how it went down:

I offered my CBR600RR to Denno to race if he could do a 1:22 at Loudon during a trackday. He ran the bike all day and I went out and timed him while he was lapping with Saxman leading him around. They just beat 1:22 and so I said "It's all yours to race if you want it." A couple of weeks after that he decided to buy Mike Martire's bike and race that. Cool! It has all the race goodies already installed.

Now, a couple of weeks later I got a call from a friend of mine asking if I knew anyone who I thought would put in a good ride on a Triumph 675.

Dennis had gone to VIR on:

a. A new to him un-setup bike.
b. A new track to him
c. Straight into the fast group

He hit the ground running and did impressive times without bitching about this and that. I was impressed and remembered that when Clive asked me to find him a rider.

I went to Clive and asked if he would be interested in a complete rookie who showed promise. He loved the idea of developing a bike and a rider at the same time and we set up a meeting (interview kind of thing).

The rest is history. We will see how the rest of the story pans out. The end of December test in Jennings will be a telling time. New bike, new tires, new track, who knows. I'm hoping for good things.
