that's exactly what my Jewish friend in NYC said. He (and many Jewish factions) were in a serious uproar about the film. Many saying that the profits might go to support Gibson's dad.... I had a HUGE email exchange with him and various people, he was actively trying to sway anyone from paying to see it in the theater.

I guess what I'm getting at, is this movie really stirred up feelings in some people I wouldn't expect....

WTF is the big deal????? This was an historical re-creation of the last days of Christ. How is that suddenly offensive???? How is this film in ANY way anti-Semetic??? History is what it is!!!!

BTW, a great film!!!!!!

Powerful, yes (to a certain audience).

A great film? Not in my book, and it has nothing to do with anti semitism or any of that BS.

Like I said in my previous post, it bored the snot out of me, and I would have been angry to have paid to see it in a theatre. Hey, I'm and obnoxious bastard, and that was one of those movies I'd have left early and demanded a refund for...

Oh man... scratches head as to where to begin with this one... Many people thought it intentionally portrayed the Jewish as being soley responsible for the ultimate death of Christ. Many members of the Jewish community around the world were outraged at this film. Particularly in NYC and LA where you actually had Hasidics protesting in front of movie theaters... let's just say that if there were more Jewish members on this site, this topic would have exploded and gone on for pages.....

movie is art right? and what art means or translates to is up to the indivdual..

I didnt think it wasn anti-semetic in the least....and no one i know who has seen it thought so either....

So if you do...maybe there are other issues that need to be delt with...besides bashing a movie and trying to ruin the creators life...

My friend in NYC actually said that, "...there is no place for religious fundamentalism on the big screen..."

HAIL SATAN!

As a "Secular Humanist", I laugh at religious discussions where people get pissed at hear-say and "beliefs", especially when other people can be influenced through a media.

If it did happen as the movie shows, there is no harm in showing it to the masses and PROFITTING off of it. Even if it didn't, who the hell cares. I'm sure as hell not so insecure about my religion that I need to complain that others may alter their opinion of it from a movie.

Religion + Entertainment = Nothing good. Ever.

I never saw the movie, but my reason wasn't really secular at all - I think if I went and watched a movie about Satan getting flogged and beaten for two hours, I'd feel bad for him. And I'd be depressed and would have wasted money paying to see a movie, which I do only to be entertained.

I can guarantee that Super Troopers will make me speculate and think in depth much more than that crap-fest. At least I didn't know how Super Troopers ended before I saw it!

Being a confirmed catholic makes me glad I hate organized religion.

Right on the nose.

Not from parents, but from friends and teachers and "upstanding citizens who are pillars of the community". Too bad they all got skeletons in their closets and I don't....

I'm all set with that crap. If anyone gets pissed that I call their religion useless and counterproductive to a successful society, then that's cool with me. Enjoy the hate that Jebus tells you not to have!

seriously though, I find that a lot of people that get it shoved down their throats during their youth come to absolutely hate it later on. I grew up within the faith (I grew up in a house on the grounds of a vast convent), went to Catholic school for a few years, then eventually went into the public school system, where, if anything, I think it could easily be argued that I retained the core "values" better than had I been "forced" through the system my entire youth.

Not to pick on you Clayton, but that statement is just plain incorrect on so many levels.

And since when does "skeletons in your closet" have anything to do with faith?
