The GOVERNOR of the state made JESUS DAY. Isn't it sort of self-evident how that is mixing church and state? Am I on crack today? Did I smoke my breakfast?

Clinton injected religion way more often then W ever has yet no one cared when he said this stuff.....

another example of double standards...

Just like it was a-ok for Clinton to dodge the draft...yet W is a coward for going into the naitonal gaurd...l

enough is enough....there are plenty of valid reasons to disagree with the President...try one of them instead of this nonsense....

What about Christmas then? Easter? These are federally recognized holidays.

You didn't answer the question, don't give me this 'self-evident' crap. Explain to me just how this is an influence on our government? What laws/ gov't procedures/ etc, etc have implemented/ affected because of 'Jesus Day'. Are people forced to observe it?

The State of Texas has JESUS DAY. It's JESUS DAY PEOPLE. THE GOVERNOR OF TEXAS SIGNED JESUS DAY INTO LAW.

I cant explain it any better than that.

Christmas and Easter have evolved into totally non-religious holidays. Santa and the Easter Bunny.

Explain to me how JESUS DAY is offensive. If it means you get the day off work, that's GREAT. Even if you get nothing out of it, how is this day negatively affecting ANYONE???? What the fuck is the big deal!!!!! If you want your own important day to be recognized by the governement, lobby for your own stupid day. POINT IS:WHO FUCKING CARES????????

I just dont think that the Governor should advocate Jesus Day. As someone who went to a Catholic high school, served as an altar boy, etc., etc., I just think making Jesus Day is taking it too far.

There is, however, a VERY good chance that I am an over-opinionted assbucket, so please dont mind me.

Fine, lets have Osama Day. He is a highly influential religious individual. Lets also have Hitler day.

You'd think celebrating his birthday was ENOUGH.

I don't care WHO wrote the constitution religiously. We no longer have a country with 100% Christian land owners looking to get around paying taxes. He is trying to make JESUS DAY a NATIONAL HOLIDAY. I am with Highsider here, I don't see how you guys can miss this. It's sittin out in the open.....

It makes me wonder why you guys are defending something that is so rediculous and would be ridiculed by anyone but your precious moral savior, George W. Bush. If anyone else did this, I'd be steamin too.

Ok, I'll say it, because it's our fucking way. The majority, and that's about all there is to it. When the liberal factions become the majority, THEN you can have your Osama Day, Hindu Day, etc. Until then, THE MOB says yes to your individual NO.

Then don't get mad when another country has the same mindset as you and thinks it's god will to kill Americans.

They can THINK that all they want, when they decide it's time to take action (or ABOUT to), then it's time to open the can heavenly whoop ass.

So it would seem as if you are a de-constructionist trying to interpret the Constitution to suit your "progressive" agenda. Sorry, but the Constitution is what it is and NOT open for interpretation to suit the cause of the day. The people who wrote it were incredibly intelligent and insightful in their vision of the perfect country. READ IT!!!!! It has worked very well for EVERYONE, long before the ACLU started getting their slimey hands all over it.

Still waiting for someone to answer ANY of my questions....
I'll be waiting here, holding my breath....

The Constitution is an INTERPRETED DOCUMENT, and the founding fathers intended it be such. It isn't meant to cover every case, and in the cases that aren't EXPLICITLY covered its up to the Judiciary to interpret it. Lacking interpretation the Constitution is virutally meaningless.

Don't like it, then get rid of the Supreme Court. There is no "Seperation of Church and State", however it has been INTERPRETED through over 200 years of jurisprudence primarily from the freedom of religion and freedom from government intereference in religion that IS written into the Constitution. Its pretty easy to understand the notion of seperation of church and state, because the minute the state endorses a religion, they as a result "do not endorse" others, which in its way is the state meddling in the affairs of religion (something the Constitution guarantees against).

To put it bluntly, go read the recorded writings of ANY of the founders (the federalist papers, etc) and you will see, that the intent of the "freedom to practice" portions of the Constitution was to make a CLEAN seperation of church and state. And don't go telling me that the federalist papers aren't valid for interpreting the constitution because judges use em every day to clarify the meaning of the Constitution.
