it will bolster kerry. to what degree, i'm not sure, but it does make a powerful case for 'the president can't get him. see?'
argument.

bush can sit there and say he's gonna get him, but the fact that he hasn't yet, gives kerry a relatively powerful point to make...

might tip the balance to kerry...

there's also a conspiracy theory to this, maybe the terrorists think kerry will be less proactive, pre-emptive, on them, thus the timing of the release....

it could be seen as a stark reminder that there are people out there who mean to do us violence.

to those who believe Bush offers a stronger program in response to the threat of terrorism, it might tip the scales in HIS favor.

that's kinda what I'm thinking.. either way it is a blatant attempt to effect the election... I just hope it is not a precursor(sp?) for anything

Sure, I agree, that's the other side of the coin...

One thing struck me as I read through that article though, it says UBL wanted felt the need for revenge for the Israeli's invading and knocking over buildings in Lebanon, even though we seem to strongly support Israel, one would think he might be more apt to send a few jets into THEIR buildings... Sure, there's the shock value and bragging rights for pulling off an attack on US soil, but still, from what I understand, it's the Jewish faction they have a REAL problem with, our support for them is, more or less, the second point of contention....

There is very little they could do to Israel that would cause as much damage as those two towers. They don't have big buildings out there.

You could look at it either way. It may help Bush, or hurt him.

OBL has been characterized as having a real hatred for the US itself-- apart from our support of Israel-- for a) attacking 2 predominantly Muslim states (Libya & Iraq), and b) stationing troops in Saudi Arabia.

dunno why the focus this time was on Israel / Lebanon... mebbe he's trying to "justify" 9/11 ???

i think UBL might have been playing that up to make bush look bad... i'll acknowledge a darker conspiracy is within the realm of possibility, but it would be such an easy 'cheap shot' for ubl....

Just because he wasn't on the plane doesn't mean anything. There's also plenty of evidence to support the fact that many of the hijackers didn't actually know they were on a suicide mission.

What proof is there that he DID? What evidence supports his claim that he masterminded the attacks? It wasn't until NOW that he openly 'admits' to it. Bullshit. I've never believed that he had much to do with this. And until we see some concrete evidence, I'll stand on it...

Actually this isn't the first time Bin Laden's admitted guilt in the planning. Over a year ago a tape was released where Bin Laden was talking about how he never thought they would topple the towers, just damage the floors above where the airliner struck.

The only involvement that I've ever perceived him having would be providing cash and a target package.
