you mean you think if you weren't in a union you would be paid less and would be mistreated?

No, not at all and $/hour in your pocket, there probably is more money in being non union. The point is, i don't have to beg for my pay raises, or fight for a pension plan, fight for medical coverage, or even fight for the rite to work reasonable hours in a day. It's all done for me and the people that do it, do a very good job doing so.

I worked non union for the first 8 years after high school. I was tired of begging for pay raises every 6 months, then having to explain why i deserved a pay raise. Granted, i always got what i asked for but why should you have to beg and explain?
I never had a pension plan non union and i had to pay partial health care after fighting just to get some sort of plan.
100% heathcare and a double pension and i'm not looking back

When unions are not abused, it puts the right worker on the right job with the right payscale to the right customers at the right price. Unions would have a much better name for themselves if the big ones weren't known for problems.

We get no bonus. We have a holiday "party" that consists of snacks that we can eat while working during a workday. Mind you, it is very hard to reach snacks when I am on phone shift. I got 4 minutes today at 7:45pm to take a shit and a piss. Very hard to be festive when you know people are stackin up on hold waiting to bitch about problems with your product that you keep telling them will work, but doesn't. That and we just lost our top performer in the group (now I am top dog, ugh) and it looks like another guy is bailin since they are making us work shittier hours with more responsibility and work for the same pay. I also realized that the "extra 12% pay" on average for profit sharing will actually be closer to half a week's paycheck. There goes that beatup cheap SV I wanted to buy....

Ugh....maybe I should just buy lotto tickets for a job!

KB, when you wanna open a stripclub down in North Carolina?

Let's not sugar coat this though. Your healthcare and pension come directly outta your pocket through dues...

I'm non Union and must have it damn good then.

Hourly wage is good, don't have to beg or explain to get more money just have to do some paperwork. Rate of progression between raises is strickly up to me. Have gotten 3 this year alone, two step raises and 1 cost of living totalling about 12% all together. Then there are quarterly Safety/Enviromental Bonuses that can be up to 6 % of the quarter. There is a yearly production bonus up to 10%. Discretionary bonus's last year got $500 just for advancing more than they expexted me to. 24 hrs of sick pay, if you end up with perfect attendance they give you the 24 hrs as overtime for a bonus. Health care starts day one. Blue Cross costs me $100 per month for a family of four and new negotiations with them it will stay that way through 2006. Retirement is 401K, starts with a company drop of 3% then they match half of my 5% that I put in, and the longer time employees have a higher match. Life insurance for me and the family, I buy additional through them at a "CHEAP" rate. Plus Christmas parties for adults/children and a family picnic in the summer. There is more but I have gone on too much about it as it is. Maybe due to the fact that a group of people tried to bring in the union this year. If they had made it in I would have started out with nothing and everything would have been up for negotiation. The only thing that a union rep could promise me was that I would have to pay dues.....

That's not true, not even close Our union dues are used to run the union hall itself.

Our health care and pension cost is figured in to the total hourly wage that it costs the contractor to employ us.
