Yes, it seems Saudi Arabia did not think their army was strong enough to evict Iraq.

I do not believe this is what most of the muslim hatered is about, more so; about the crusades and religious wars. I think Isreal is just the latest excuse, as they poured over the borders and Isreal repelled them.

I've often wondered why we can't ring a giant bell and say that's it, no more border changes.
Wow, well this is a whole other angle that I'd never really heard of before. I read up on it a bit and there's a lot of agreement about what you said, that OBL just used U.S. ties to Israel to drum up support from Muslims who were sympathetic to the palestinian cause, and that his real motivations for attacking was US military presence in Saudi Arabia during the 1991 attacks on Iraq. And that like you said, OBL wanted to direct an attack on Iraq by himself and was rejected by the Saudis.

That just really confuses the fuck out of me right there. Why would OBL want to attack Iraq? How could he justify an attack on the US over us doing what he wanted to do in the first place? Every time I think I'm starting to make a little bit of sense of the middle east, seems like I read something new and I'm back to square one. I just don't get it

That's exactly the point. Hiroshima (and Nagasaki, you knew we dropped two bombs right?) was a reaction to Pearl Harbor in the same way that the World Trade Center bombings were a reaction to US military action in Lebanon. Except, instead of 2,000 dead innocent civilians, you had more like a quarter million, plus at least another quarter million suffering from radiation aftereffects. What, you think those half million Japanese were any less innocent than the people in the towers? Do you actually think they suffered less? If so, you might google the effects of radiation poisoning sometime. Not exactly a pleasant way to die.

What's particularly revolting is that despite being one of the most significantly horrific events of our time, you can't even spell Hiroshima. Shows you what kind of effect the suffering of innocents outside our borders has on the average of American.
Nuking Japan was NOT a reaction to Pearl Harbor. Yay, lets hear it for public schools!!!! And for the people who think is was so horrific, what's your take on what Japan did to China beforehand?

BTW, American napalm killed far more Japanese than what Big Boy and Little Boy did combined.

are you telling me sons corperate big boys are joining up
you on crack ?
uhhhh....are you saying the NFL player was nuts to leave his career and join up and fight for his country? I think I'm misunderstanding you here.

As for your second statement, no I don't believe the sons and daughters of corporate fat cats are enlisting. However, our society is not only made up of the disparate poor and vastly wealthy. I believe our military is made up of mostly middle-class citizens, regardless, our force is a voluntary one. If you really don't want to fight, you don't join up. Your statement is a direct carry-over from Vietnam, which was entirely true then. But the times they are a changin'.

No I didn't join. When I graduated from high-school the military was letting people go left and right. My country didn't need me in uniform at that time. I had always hoped to be a pilot in the military but my eyes went by the time I was a senior so my desire to join up was eliminated. Now I'm a small-business owner that is helping to provide much-needed tax dollars.

I disagree with you about the NFL player (can't remember his name). I think what he did was the ultimate display of bravery and love for his country. And he was fighting for his country not because Bush said so, but simply because he was enlisted in the US military.

Ben, you are hopeless liberal panzy. There is right and wrong, good and evil, black and white. Perhaps you don't realize that while you're busy micro-analyzing each and every situation, you're missing the big picture. But, that is what truly separates us, I don't have the time to see things as you and the Ward Churchills of the world. I know what constitutes good, decent and civil behavior, you haven't got a clue. You're too busy trying to understand and accept everyone, regardless of how they might view you, even if those people still hate you. Moral relativism is going to be the death of our society and if you keep hanging on to that bogus theory, you will go down with the ship. Maybe, I have not articulated myself in the best of ways on this post, but I hope you get the point. If you don't, I'm not surprised.
Don't confuse tolerance with liberalism. I don't know Ben all that well, but what I do know, is more conservative than liberal.
