Taxes

My wife is not a CPA or anything, but she does know what she's doing. Yes, we own property and one child. One of the things that really hurt us was some of the misc., non-employee compensation that I received, about $5K. It seems as if that money is taxed at a rate of 40%, is that right?

So in short, you want lower taxes? Great, me too. But unless you can find 600 billion dollars of deadweight in our current federal budget, I don't see how you're going to do it. And if you can't do that, I don't see why you're so pissed off that noone else has.
Lower taxes would be nice, yes. However, I might be content to stay at my current rates, if gov't could be much more fiscally responsible. Again, I know it sounds incredibly simplistic, but if the gov't(all levels) were to balance their books the same way that you and I balance our own accts, we may not have any defeicts... And, I know that the current administration is partly responsible.

I can't think straight, right now, so maybe I will pick this up after I get some sleep. I just got back from our national sales meeting, so of course there was alot of drinking going on 'till the wee hours. I have only had a total of about 6-7 hours sleep, all weekend......................sleepy-time! CIAO!!!!!

Taxes

My wife's an accountant, and she takes the H&R Block courses every year. We STILL have TWO CPA's look over our taxes each year...

There's A LOT of things out there that you may not know you can claim. You can claim the 'property taxes' you pay on all your vehicles' registrations; You can claim mileage to & from for your child's doctor visits; You can claim home improvements. Hell, you can even claim up to like, $800 in 'donations' without even having to prove it! And that's just the tip of the iceburg...

Wunna our favorites is home equity loans. We use it for everything. It's like free money (very loose term). The interest paid is all a write off...

You really should have a CPA have a lookie...

We have already filed electronically....
I will definitely have a real accountant take a good, hard look over next years filing.

Taxes

get a divorce "on paper" and file seperately..... instant tax savings because now your taxable income falls under under the lower tax brackets etc with your incomes separated as well...
