Marines in trouble for shooting iraqis

1) The guy who shot the 2 iraqis when they charged him after they were stopped to have their car inspected.

2) The guy who shot the iraqi who was "playing dead" in the mosque.

Sounds like they are both being cleared... that is a good thing for the (other) soldiers... hopefully they can do their job without worrying about what will happen.

Good for them, I'd have done the same thing in their shoes. It's downright pathetic that some US citizens are so eager to string up our service men and women for protecting themselves in war! I don't remember who said it, but:
The point of war isn't to die for your country, it's to make the other bastard die for his...(something to that effect). Boohoo poor mohammed Ickhamallbob...what about all of those people those bastards beheaded?

30 times each??

They were just making sure. In my book, they were just being thorough.

You don't shoot an enemy thirty times in the name of freedom and democracy. That's how martyrs are made. If a marine comes back with 30 gun shots in him for no better reason than some iraqi thought he'd make good target practice, you better believe that's barbaric in my mind. How come it doesn't work both ways?

I hadn't heard about this story concerning the Iraqi insurgent who was shot 30 times.

Bad soldiers. Wasting ammo when two or three would have done the trick.

Regardless of one's feelings for this war in Iraq, I fully support the right of our soldiers to shoot people who dont obey them. We are currently occupying their country, like it or not, and the insurgency over there is killing WAY too many of our servicemen. To stay alive in a war, it seems to me you have to kill, or be killed.

Not trying to start an e-argument here...but do I need to provide the link to ogrish so that you can see the Nick Berg beheading again? Or the news release about the bodies of our soldiers being dragged through the streets of Iraq? What about that? Tit for tat...

The only thing that gets me worked up is that these marines didn't follow the credo from the rifle range...One shot, One kill. But hey, if you have to be sure, 30 will do...

What about it? It's barbaric and reprehensible. I'd like to see those who would do such inhuman things brought to justice and condemned for their crimes of war. I thought that was my point?

The truth of the matter is that the iraqi insurgents are not playing nice...(I would say fair, but there is no such thing as fair in war). When you play possum just to get up and shoot two Marines in the back, you better believe that the next iraqi laying left for dead is gonna get a check. If he's still breathing, he's a danger that needs to be eliminated. Whether that means being chained or shot. What's the difference between shooting them 30 times with an M-16 vs using an M-2 to neutralize them? Yet that is ok and it sure does make a mess...If it were my ass on the line, I would rather make sure that I made it back to camp that night than look politically correct. I'd rather be alive and fighting charges than being buried by my family because I took some thing for granted. Just because they are hurt/wounded it doesn't mean they aren't capable of messing up your day. I have no comments for the Marine Lt. case as he was cleared of all charges and he was the one that allegedly fired 45 rounds by himself at 2 iraqis. Apparently someone felt he was doing his job.
