Dumbass looters in New OrleansI mean they are doing the best they can with what they have down there, but its fairly obvious no one at the white house thought this relief effort through very much. "Ok, we're going to pick up everyone in New Orleans and then leave them on the highway." "Ok, what then?" "Dont worry about it, we'll figure that out when we get there." |

Dumbass looters in New OrleansThere was a mandatory evacuation notice. Those idiots chose to defy those orders and stay. Some people, even though they had advanced warning, still decided to wait until the last moment to leave. If they would have gone in and forced people to leave and shut down all the businesses early then 2 things were possible: 1. all the people would have bitched and complained and probably sued for lost revenue for those days that they were forced out, and they would have complained about the "heavy hand" of the government. 2. if the flood didn't materialize, then people would have bitched and sued for lost time and revenue. What pisses me off now is... Those idiots who went against the evacuation notice now need rescuing. That puts more people at risk. Those rescue workers are risking their lives to go out and save these people, and they shouldn't have to waste their time... because those people should have left and not need rescued. The volunteers could then better spend their time cleaning, rebuilding, reuniting misplace family members, relief aid, etc. As it is now... the rebuilding and relief efforts are slowed down until the rescue operations are done and the frigging looters are stopped. They're wasting time, money and gas having to go into dangerous situations that they shouldn't have too. |

Dumbass looters in New Orleans Good stuff, LuvDog!!!!!!!! Too bad we have idiots using this as an oppurtunity to politicize a NATURAL DISASTER! They somehow think this is Bush's fault, like he and his advisors created this NATURAL DISASTER! Am I being clear enough to the morons who are using this to bash the President:NATURAL DISASTER! |

Dumbass looters in New OrleansNew Orleans had a lot of very poor people. A manadatory evacuation notice doesn't do much good when people don't even have cars, bikes, whatever. The government needed to help the people get out of there. I bet there was some effort to bus people out, etc.. but evidently enough. I'm sure the people who purposedly chose to stay despite being able to drive out was pretty small. No argument though, the people hauling plasma screens are idiots. Don't forget the looting is going on in Alabama/Missisppi too, where there is no flooding. Last night the news was reporting at a Walmart in Missisippi that had been ripped apart, the locals had all showed up with their dualies and trailers and were picking the place clean. That's a VERY different situation then New Orleans, those people really deserve what's coming to them. |

Dumbass looters in New OrleansI hate to say this but, I think they did get the mandatory evacuation notice what...2 days before the storm hit? Even if you don't have a car, you can always WALK. Exactly like my husband (who was a lieutenant in the army for quiet some years) and my brother in law (also in the army in special communications) told me yesterday, those people could have get away from the worst part of the storm by starting to walk away....you can walk a lot of miles in one day, imagines 2 days...they would most likely have walked away from the flooded area and still be alive. I know myself if I was without a car and couldn't get a ride on the bus, I would grab my kids and do WHATEVER I CAN to get them AWAY from a thing like this! Grab your backpack, stuff some food in it and a few clothes, and start to walk as far as you can. |

Dumbass looters in New OrleansThe destruction caused by the huricane is incredible, and my sympathies go out to the people who have had their lives turned upside down, and everything taken away from them. That said... There was a mandatory evacuation order given over 48 hours in advance. It's been said before, those without cars could have started walking. As it was, many of those with cars ended up walking because of the traffic jams. Yes, there is a segment of the population that was unaware of the notice because they didn't have a radio, TV, etc. I highly doubt this applies to everyone that is now stuck. As far as leaving the material possesions behind, in the grand scheme of things, the most important thing is to get out alive, everything else is minor... This is part of the risk when you live in an area that gets hit by severe weather. Now we have thousands of people left homeless waiting for assistance. Again, they have my sympathies for what they have been through. Now, How about we try this. How about they do something to help themselves (those that willingly chose to stay and 'ride out' the storm it's their own damn fault they're there in the first place). At the very least start walking, it's highly unlikely that what you are walking towards is worse than what you are walking away from. If you run into water too deep in one direction, try another. Try helping out the FEMA folks instead of bitching because they aren't doing enough. As far as looting the grocery stores, I would do the same thing. I would even loot a drugstore if I needed medication, or Wal-Mart for some camping equipment. Desperate times call for desperate measures. You wouldn't see me hauling away a plasma set though. I'm sure there is a segment of the population that is kicking in, and helping out. They deserve to be applauded. As for the trash that is getting in the way of cleanup - relocate them to the remnants of an oil rig offshore and leave them there. |

Dumbass looters in New OrleansI'm tired of hearing all these people bitch and complain about Bush and the Federal Government too. Shouldn't the Mayor of New Orleans have had an emergency plan already created? His city sits below sea level and every year there is a threat that a hurricane could wipe the city out? Shouldn't he have had a plan in effect and mobilized his forces more quickly? Shouldn't he have planned for food and water and shelter for his citizens? He's blaming everyone else, but not taking any responsibility. If not him, then how about the Governor of Lousiana? Once again, it's in her state. She should have had a plan in place and reacted sooner and more efficiently. Yes... the Federal Government should help and they are helping, but the FIRST line of defense should have been local. I'm tired of hearing that this is all Bush's fault... and that he's getting rich from gas prices. |
