Gasoline breakdown

Found this breakdown of a gallon of gas and where the money goes, thought it was interesting. If this is true $0.85 is in taxes
But the politicians are calling the oil companies gougers on a mark up of $0.53 for distribution, marketing, refinery and profit.

April 2006

Retail prices $2.90

Distribution Costs, Marketing Costs and Profits-$0.03
Crude Oil Cost $1.52
Refinery Cost and Profits $0.50
State and Local Sales Tax $0.42
State Excise Tax $0.25
Federal Excise Tax$0.18

Gasoline breakdown

I believe that is pretty close except the crude oil...

I saw a few articles about this today and it makes me think the crude oil cost is actually lower then $1.50 and the oil companies are pocketing more like $0.75-1.00 markup???

The cost per barrel for regular gasoline is over double that of cruide. That's why I'm unsure as I didn't see the figures in gallons, but $1.50 sounds high for the price of crude.

yes, $75/barrel, who is the $75/barrel paid to?

it's a market scam where they sell it to themselves to hide profits

Gasoline breakdown

Last year around August time, I just happened across an invoice in the office at the company I was working for at the time. They were a semi-large oil company in the area, covering gas/oil heating, and also owned a large number of gas stations. At the time, prices were around 3 to 3.25/gallon, they were buying the gas at around $1.49/gallon, and the only stop the gas made after their purchase, was into the tanks at the gas station. So right there you were seeing more than a dollar worth of mark-up by the oil company and the gas station.

Gasoline breakdown

I believe a barrel of crude is 42 gallons

I think Non sweet crude there is a good portion that is unusable for lighter distillates like oil and gas

Gasoline breakdown

It is what it is. Yes, it really sucks ! It cost me $45 to fill the tank in my Tacoma, this morning. But, we keep buying it, so the oil companies are going to try and cash in for as long as they can. The President is foolish to even suggest that the government is going to do anything about it. And, for all of the legislators who are suggesting a "windfall" tax, forget about it ! That would be disasterous for the economy. Basically, all we can do is try and consume as little gas as possible. The prices will come down again.
